2008 Honda Accord EX-L Sedan four-cylinder

2008 Honda Accord EX-L Sedan four-cylinderFour-cylinder sedan: While the new Accord sedan is bigger than the old Accord, "it performs and handles like a mid-size sedan," writes contributor Andrew McCredie.  And even the base 177-hp four-cylinder engine provides "more than enough giddy up and go," he reports.

Nice to see another car with Navi under $35,000.

I'm not sure if it was a trick of lens but the rear of that car looks huge.

"And when dropping the kind of money one needs to these days to purchase a quality car such as the Accord - figure at least half a year's after-tax wages for the average Canadian - being pragmatic makes much more sense than seeking thrills. "

Hello!!!... Earth to Andrew! The CHEAPEST 2008 Accord is over $30K CAD OTD. Since when the AVERAGE, AFTER-TAX, Canadian income is $60K? And for $30K OTD you only get the basic of the basic car.

LOL, things like 4-wheel discs and steering wheel audio controls have been available on under $20K, econo-boxes for years.
Come on, no comment on stupid trunk lid hinges and the bare metal inner side? How cheap is that on a car costing close to $40K?

Think the upper 10% of the high income family has an average after tax income of $60,000+, not your average average family.

$35,000 for a loaded 4-banger Accord? No tanks.

HOUSEHOLD I agree, but it's not what the article says.
$30K OTD is for the BASE model. I don't see much value here?

Let's be fair here.  The base 4 banger starts around 25k.  But those options sure add up.

Oink. The Tribute is listed at 1524kg and it has a 4WD system tacked on.

But you can fit that little cute SUV inside the trunk of the new Accord.  ;)

Test drove a base LX model 2 weeks ago. It drove very nice, very quiet, ride was great, and the steering had great feedback. LOADS of room too. Definitely an improvement compared to the older version.

35K for a loaded 4 cyl Accord. So...what do you think about the TSX? Its 40K + for a "loaded" 4 banger TSX.  ???

$30K OTD is for the BASE model. I don't see much value here?

What does the competitors go for OTD?  Altima?  Camry?  The Sonata is a good value, but they've always been priced a bit lower.  The American cars seem to be priced right in there too....it's not like the Honda suddenly was 6K more out the door.

The EX and EX-L are equipped with the 2.4L 190HP. The LX is the only model that recieves the 177HP motor.

Agree MD, a loaded Camry and Altima is also 35g's.  So nothing new here, just bitching for the sake of bitching I guess.  BTW I find the Accord very elegant, one was following me yesterday and at first I thought it was some BMW.  And NO people, :bang: the Accord looks nothing like a Sonata and the Sonata looks nothing like a BMW!

I think my point was that, the base model only has basic features for $30K OTD; I would guess you get more content for the same or slightly less with the Altima or the upcoming Mazda6, plus un atractive design so no special value for the Accord IMO.

It really depends on what base model means?  Is a competitor offering dual zone climate control, sunroof, cd changer, 17" alloys etc in their base car?   I don't know how much less a competitor's base model or how much more content one must have in the vehicle before it's considered value, but I don't find a lot of value in many cars these days.

I won't repeat here the laundry-list of things that I don't like about the new Accord as posted in other threads.  I will, however, repeat a question and hopefully get an answer this time:

How is it that the Accord - now by FAR the largest vehicle in its class (if you consider its classmates the likes of Altima, Camry, Sonata and Mazda 6) ends up with the SMALLEST trunk?  Is it specifically geared towards extra-large passengers with extra-small luggage?

This Accord is a whopping 7.5" longer than the trim Mazda 6 Sedan, yet gives up 1.2 cu. ft. of trunk space to the little guy (14 versus 15.2).  Does this make sense to anybody?
