Jeeese MD...lighten up already...being that touchy can't be good for you. If the subject of value and pricing in the Canadian market bothers you that much ignore posts that discuss it. It was a valid comment in light of the fact that the "good value" thing was a major part of the reviewer's day 1 comment and car pricing is a major mainstream topic these days. (and you'll note I also made a couple  comments on the qualities of the vehicle itself....you may not agree but the comments weren't unreasonable)

It's good value in the context of the Canadian market, in which the reviews are focused and tailored for.  I'll lighten up when you start posting comments about things OTHER than US pricing.  ;)

I'd argue that we're heading towards having a North American market rather than a Canadian one but why don't we agree to disagree ;)

With regard to comments OTHER than about overpriced Canadian cars how about this....

Who thinks shoehorning a 3rd row in vehicles smaller than a van or a Yukon XL is stupid? I for one would rather have extra storage under the floor where the 3rd row would normally fold. Leave the 3rd row as a stand alone option for soccer moms and dads who can't stand vans.

I agree. I think that 3rd row seating should be an option. Like the Tribeca, which offers seating for 5 or 7 (also the Sante Fe offers this I believe).

Personally, I am interested in knowing the MSRP in the States too. It really shouldn't be that big a deal to show US and Canadian prices in a vehicle write up.

The pricing story will go away as soon as the manufacturers change their pricing policies.

In regards to the story, I can't see much value in a $45000 SUV. :P

I think the 2wd Pilot offers by far the best value.  Reactive awd is nice, but at such a price premium, I'd stick with the fwd and Blizzaks.  Plus, only the 2wd gets the cylinder deactivation feature from the Odyssey EX-L / Touring.

The pricing of the 2wd puts it nose to nose with the Ody EX.  For the same money, you get a trendy near-trunkless 8-seater, or an 8-seater with a 40 cu. ft. trunk and power doors.  You can't beat a minivan beyond two rows of seats.

The Pilot is a big squishy station wagon. It does what it was designed for: schlep kids around in surbibia. I am sure the soccer moms will love it.

ps. The leather is only a $1400 option because it is that plastic coated stuff.

I have been in a Pilot only once, and the new CR-v appeared more roomier in the drive seat

I test drove a Pilot in 05 when my Dad was looking. He ended up with a Murano mostly due to issues with the Honda dealer. I recall I was surprised that the Pilot seemed smaller than I expected on the inside.

Wait a minute...

As a bona fide owner, I'll reiterate some comments from the past:

1. 20/20 hindsight says the Odyssey is a much more practicable vehicle and a better choice for most folk
2. The 3rd row is an offense and should be removed for secure storage a la the Ridgeline
3. The AWD only works on dry pavement up to 30 km/hr when locked in -- and doesn't come on much that I could tell on its own
4. For a $45K vehicle, some features were missing (but may be there now) such as an AUX input and heated wipers
5. We have done a dozen long trips in our Pilot with not a single issue
6. It is a comfortable, high ride
7. The boxy shape allows for great use of space in the back
8. Call it a big wagon all you want, but with the hp it has the thing can go!

Wing, you can store those headrests in the compartment under the back floor; they are designed to do so. It's much safer than your set-up.

edit: my only comment about price is that the CAN cost of accessories is offensive -- as in 40% higher than the US at least
