In Europe, the 335d produces 286 horsepower and 427 lb-ft of torque, while still achieving a combined cycle of 35 mpg. In comparison, a 335i produces 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque with a combined cycle of 20 mpg.

What am I going to do with the money saved on fuel?  :)

Not surprised BMW is bringing this diesel engine to NA, as the article states, 67% of Euro sales are diesels. Reading the 5 Series Forums, the 535d is a very popular buy today.

Lose 5% of peak horsepower, gain 42% more torque, and increase fuel economy by 75%.  Unbelievable  :o

Impressive indeed.  Still, as an enthusiast, I think it might take some getting used to not getting to rev out the engine in spirited driving.  All that torque sure would make rocketing out of corners fun though.

It would be even better if they were to bring in a 325D with the less powerful engine.    It would be cheaper and even more economical.   A search will find a table posted 6 months back giving the numbers for the various BMW diesels
The most radical revolutionary will become a conservative the day after the revolution.

427 TQ is just for starters.  Once that car gets chipped, it will be 500TQ plus EASILY.

I think the starter in that BMW makes more TQ than the Miata's engine....  :)

Don't worry, they might have a 1-Series version (with half the usable space, 99.5% of the weight, and 99.2% of the price).

Sweet. With that 0.8% cost savings I could probably buy a house.
