Today's Test Drive:
2008 Honda Accord EX-L V6

2008 Honda Accord EX-L V6Now bigger than its major rivals, the Camry and Altima, the new Accord EX-L V6 has a larger V6 engine, a roomier interior, and improved ride, but Editor-in-chief Greg Wilson wonders whether the new Accord is just too big.

:o Whooda thunk it - Honda's building a Chevy Impala, and not a very good-looking one at that. Honda's bigger-ain't-necessarily-better Accord looks like it was designed by a dozen seperate committees. The headlights, the grill, the awkward Saturn-like 'character-line', nothing seems to fit. Honda even managed to screw up the dashboard, which to my eyes looks busy and unorganized.

The previous-gen Accord may have been a bit generic, but it at least had some elegance that this one totally lacks.

Bigger than an RL?  Yowsa...  this "bigger is better" thing is getting a bit out of hand, I think.

I think Honda is doing exactly what the American consumer thinks, bigger is better, hence the mentality that if its big it must be worth the money.

I read this very often on U.S based car forms from posters saying such n such a car is too small for the money, its not worth it etc.

It's only a few inches shorter than a Chrysler 300 now. :o

Something about the front styling/hood looks awkward, though I presume much of it has to do with the new pedestrian crash regulations that they're going towards.  Say goodbye to the days of a sleek, low hood IMO.

It doesn't matter what this car looks like or how big it is or how it drives. Honda will sell a ton of them because of the way consumers think (or more accurately, don't think) about Honda and it's reputation. Honda could make a "Biscayne" model with an OHV inlne 6, 3 on the tree, a bench seat and dog dish hubcaps and they would still sell a few hundred thousand examples.

Oooh it does.  ::) But Honda had to do something to bolster sales. Making it look like a Camry would be just too obvious, yes? ???

The exterior is a mess imo but the interior is very nice, save the silly steering wheel.

Still, I wonder how many people would hypothetically rather go Altima or Passat now, or even Camry (given some reports saying that the Camry is a better drive than the new Accord).
You can't just have your characters announce how they feel.
That makes me feel angry!

The front looks like a Ridgeline smacked into an Altima.....the back looks borign and uninspired....and the logical Honda layout is starting to get busy.  I thought our Odyssey had a lot of buttons (and I've got tri-zone climate control)....whoa.

Which focus group passed the exterior design ?

Looks like someone has sewn up the body parts of a Saturn L200, BMW 5 Series and a Passat, and called it an Accord. I'd be very surprised if the Accord can replicate the sales success of previous Accord models.

Even the Camry (which I find a tad bloated and hard on the eyes) can sell....the name can do a lot...and I'm sure the features is right in line with the consumer needs/wants.

I spy with my little eye a re-badge Saturn L Serries :)

I spotted the car yesterday in a horrible colour. The Car looked so much better in person than in the photos. Not as big looking as the Camry. I found the Accord looked a little dated from the front.  but the back of the car look more contemporary. I liked it.  :)

I agree that the car looks better in person than in the picture and does look smaller. The Coupe design is very smart.

Wonder which designed penned the Accord and that BMW? Anyone know the names??? ;)
Chris Bangle designed the BMW and Chitoshi Yokota was the chief designer for the Accord.

If you look around, you will see Bangle's influence on many, many cars today. Like it or not, many of the makers have copied it. Bangle's original BMW designs (the 2002 745i being among the earliest of pure Bangle) have been softened a bit over the past 5 years. I like the look now, although many continue to harp about it. Whatever, styling is subjective. Buy what appeals to you.

Has anybody realized that this thing looks exactly like a 2007 Hyundai Sonata on the outside?  The front end and rear end is almost a carbon copy!!!  Let me know what you guys think!  I think Honda has really run out of ideas here.  The new 2009 Fit looks like a Mazda B class, at least thats what all the euro mags are saying!!
