I just took it back last night... I must say - I never noticed the knob quality.

Rusty - you were right. I was dogged by "paparazzi" wearing baggy pants and brandishing cell phone cameras. Other Audis followed me for blocks. Lifted-pickup drivers screamed (happy) expletives at me. Had at least one offer of marriage and more propositions than I've had in the last five years.
If I can't drive 'em... I'll draw 'em!

Did you take it to Mosport on Saturday for the Make a Wish event?

Do you realize that in about 30 (updated as requested) years, we'll have millions of old ladies running around with tattoos?

Yes, MD, that was me. Didn't take part in the event, although I had friends there that did.

Here's the R8 I drove, RTronic with carbon fibre trim.

I'm a little far to attend, but had a friend tell me it was a blast.  He commented on the R8 being a gorgeous car....like a spaceship.  He was very impressed at the owners for giving up their time and cars for such a great cause.

It truly is a wonderful event - not only for car lovers but it helps to raise awareness for the Foundation. I rarely miss it, regardless of the weather.

I wish I would have had the chance to be there. That is a real sweet car and if..... well I recall also that all of the allotment for Canada and maybe north America has been sold out for the next year. Is that correct?

If it is I have to think it was a bit of a waste of money when they put in a full page pull out ad in the Toronto Star two weeks ago drumming up interest in a car that isn't available. But I suppose not all orders go through and some may become available.

Any other cities get the same black pull out?

I didn't see that. Puff piece or well done? Mostly photography or some text?

Audi has a 2nd tier image problem in North America. Not quite as much prestige factor as they like or deserve. A bit of that has to do with history, as well as the understated style of their product and less product offerings as a whole. They had wanted to focus on prestige and profit, even if that meant sacrificing some volume, which I think is a good route for them to go. The R8 is a car that definitely catches people's attention and is a good conversation starter for the brand - both for the general public (which may need a newspaper to learn about the car) and the clientele that can afford the R8 and other Audis. Someone may look at an R8 and may decide on an S or RS vehicle... instead or alongside.

Yes, I'm impressed by owners being so 'generous' as well.

The foundation sounds like a good cause.  to Lesley and others who volunteer for and/or participate in such events.

Since you sound a bit apathetic, how about you call Audi and you get ME a week in the car?  I'll be glad to write as long of a review as you'd like.

Yes. I'm quite curious how this car is as a daily driver and the storage space (golf bag or no golf bag?). Then we can all argue about which three vehicles we would buy for the price of this car. Tantalizing! :P ;) :rofl2:
