It also sounds good.

Interesting indeed - I'd prefer to see The Stig behind the wheel though.

Wow that's some bad driving ;)

It's funny they always let the pro drivers go nuts but that was just a waste of rubber!

Hooray for the fake exhaust on the Lexus  ::)

I'll take the RS4, please, over an IS-F, M3, or C63 AMG.

Lexus is used to building old man cars and semi-sporting-sedans (at best)... I'm not surprised that they went for form over function.  Disappointed, yes.  Surprised... not so much.

I saw that as well and I was shocked. I can't believe that Lexus would do that. I think the car looks great but knowing that some idiot put those exhaust holes there on purpose kind of ruins it for me.
To top it off they should have put in a closed off air scoop and break vents.
In a world where the dead are returning to life, the word "trouble" loses much of its meaning.

RS4:

But don't count the new M3 out, either.  That car is certainly -worthy.

A nice young automotive journalist who had one to do a review took me for a ride in one a few weeks ago and I was quite impressed.

Just got around to reading this.  Surprised nobody commented on the transmission in this car being likely the best in the world. (according to a couple other reads I've done) Impressive indeed.

Oh..and the horror of fake exhaust tips.  I guess BMW M fans better shoot themselves too over the fake side gills.  Or the fake port holes on Buicks.  Or the pretend ground effects/hood scoops/brake ducts on just about all cars..oh the horror.....  ::)

Dude, it's a slushbox.  Compared to a manual or a DSG, it's not the best in the world.  Even if it's a quick-shifting slushbox.

Uhhh...actually they said it's BETTER (not this article, but a couple others) than the DSG (DSG was "close").  They said perhaps the only one better is Ferraris $$$$$$ tranny in the 599.

I'd take this in a blink of an eye over a "rubbery" BMW M3 shifter...

"The gloriously quick downshifts (with matched revs) sound as if the car has a true sequential gearbox. It's unbelievable. The only other transmission that comes close to such quick, driver-friendly action is the dual-clutch DSG gearbox like the one in an Audi A3, or perhaps the latest $9,000, Formula 1-style automated sequential manual like that in the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano."

"The eight-speed transmission requires just a tenth of a second to change gears, beating the times of the Ferrari F430, Lexus claims, and matching the numbers for the new F599 GTB.."

"The IS F doesn't offer a manual transmission--and nobody's going to complain."

"Lament, if you will, the lack of a manual gearbox, but there's a good chance you'll change your mind after spending a few minutes behind the wheel."

These are quotes from various mags.  I don't recall EVER (maybe Ferrari) hearing such positive words about a "slushbox"....Have you?

Yup... the DSG.  To paraphrase a few articles from memory "The future of transmissions"  "This is what all transmissions should be."  ...and now, reading more and more long-term articles on the DSG equipped GTIs, the real enthusiasts give it its kudos for being a techno wonder, but it's far from perfect.

I'll reserve final judgement on this Lexus tranny until I experience it for myself.  But the fake exhaust outlets are still shameful.  What is this, some hill-billy teenager's Neon or Grand Am?  Superfluous body kits and automatic gearboxes for all sporting cars!  Huzzah!

Fake portholes or side gills from other makers do not make Lexus's exhaust pipe styling abortion any less offensive to those of us with good taste.   ;)

The thing that makes the DSG so entertaining is it still feels like manual, despite the lack of clutch.  There is a more connected feel from the gas pedal because of the lack of torque converter.  I'll reserve judgment till I drive this IS-F though....

:iagree:  The argument "it's okay for Lexus to do this with the ISF...Buick does this sort of stuff too!" would only make sense to a bunch of Buick fanboys.
