Today's Test Drive:
2008 Saturn Vue XE AWD

2008 Saturn Vue XE AWDThe new Saturn Vue "is basically a straight copy of the European Opel Antara, which is mostly a good thing," says Contributing Editor, Chris Chase.  However, acceleration is "average" because of its heavy curb weight, he says.

The Vue is clearly overpriced at $31,275 for the base V6 model.
An Outlander LS 4WD w/Convenience Package costs $28,248 (that's $3000 less!!!) and it's similarly/better equipped. A similarly/better equipped Santa Fe GL 3.3L AWD costs $30,095. Not too much value for the Vue.
The Vue is only perhaps cheaper than the CRV and RAV which are also overpriced.
Big step forward for GM, but IMO the Vue is overpriced, overweight, overthirsty (most likely) and overcompact (smallish cargo).

 :iagree:

Really, quite a shame. I'm happy it has remained compact, but either price or equip it or design it to compete. The Red Line is super attractive, but at $39+ forget it.

4,325 pounds???  :o

Nice looking vehicle but too expensive and thirsty for my liking.

That's what my vehicle weighs and not only is mine almost a mid-size, it is truck based as well!  :o

In Yurp, the Antara comes with the 2.0 CDTi. Just check the Vauxhall UK website- it's there under the "Enter the Diesel Experience" linky.

So why will GM not sell the Saturn VUE with this motor? Don't hand me the: dirty diesel/particulates/hybrid option/market resistance BS. GM is missing the boat in a big way by not offering this motor as an option in this little porker.  Look at how the Jeep Liberty sales to a jump when outfitted with the CRD.

...and then the EPA killed the Liberty diesel with increased emissions regulations.  The only diesel Jeep out there right now is the Grand Cherokee, with a much-more-expensive MB diesel engine.

The new vue has 3 engine options. A 2.4, a hybrid 4, a 3.5 V-6 & a 3.6 V-6. I drove the XR with the 3.6 260 hp engine. Really impressive & alltho it is expensive you get what you pay for. Also about the CRD Liberty a bud of mine bought one & he can,t crack 28 mpg on the hiway.
