I guess, people have been waiting for this.
Click on the link, I don't want to spoil the fun.

For sure the STI is faster (and IMHO better looking), but 0.8% faster is hardly a great victory.  These are clearly very evenly matched cars that will be wonderful to have available in the CDN market.

This test really isn't relavent in the NA market since the japanese STI has a 2.0T and the NA has a 2.5T, the 2.0T has more torque (311 vs. 290) power output is about the same 304 for J vs 305 for NA. I think the Japan version is also smaller and lighter. I'm not sure what the number differnces will be for the EVO, if any.
In a world where the dead are returning to life, the word "trouble" loses much of its meaning.

Looks like 05STi  was fastest on that Tsukuba circuit:

EVO / STI

2006 1:05:07 / 1:04:72

2005 1:04.88 / 1:04:17

2003 1:05:30 / 1:04:69

2001 1:05:17 / 1:06:56

1998 1:04:69 / 1:06:73

1996 1:07:00 / 1:05:92

1994 1:06:52 / 1:06:26

1992 1:10:90 / 1:07:99

I guess it was 2.0L type R spec C... still good to see!

nevermined..it has been posted on other sites:

Subject: WRX STI Pricing

Good afternoon,

We’re please to announce that the 2008 Impreza WRX STI pricing has been finalized and approved.

Please take note of this important schedule:
·Pricing memo will be sent in dealer mail Monday January 14, will arrive to dealers on Tuesday January 15
·Official pricing announcement to the public will be at the Montreal Auto Show, Thursday Jan 17 at 14:00
·Cars will be released early next week

With all the of new features along with enhanced driving dynamics and refinement, the new STI is really so much more car than it’s predecessor. Take for example just some of the improvements over the last model:

A 12 horsepower increase to 305HP and 290 lb-ft of torque now available lower in the rpm range
New Multi-mode Driver Controlled Centre Differential (DCCD)
New Multi-mode Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) system and Traction Control System (TCS)
GPS DVD-based navigation system and monitor system with colour touch-screen display
Front dash integrated DVD entertainment system with 7” tilt adjustable screen and digital sound technologies
SIRIUS® Satellite Radio (Free 3 month trial)
We think the STI will be a great competitor against other sports cars and a great value: We’ve reduced MSRP by $4000 compared to last year’s model! The MSRP for the 2008 STI will be $44,995.00

Best Regards,

Only about 10 ground more then in the US $34,995

http://www.cars.com/go/configurator/styles.jsp?admsmake=SU&myid=29484&match=Hatchback&zc=37067

Canada does not get the base model so compare apples to apples. The difference is $5k for BBS and GPS.

Very decently priced; similarly priced as a 328i with options.

According to the US subaru web page, the BBS, GPS package is a $3800 option or just 2k for the BBS.
I probably wouldn't get either options if given the choice to save $3800.

But you are right after you factor in Duty the cost to import is $41166.80 a savings of only $3788.2, this may or may not be worth the hassle.

A 328i in only RWD....the 328xi is $43,600 but has only 230HP. The 335xi is $52,500 with 300HP which I think would be the closest competitor in the BMW lineup.

* Personally I don't think people cross shop these two cars

Provided that the Canadian model includes the BBS wheels as well (from the memo we know it includes the Navi), the price difference is $6,200 USD (destination charge excluded from both prices) or 16%.
Not as bad as in the past, but some may still go south of the border to save 4-5K (including the tax impact on a lower amount, plus the destination charge difference) which is still a good chunk of money.

Now let's see the Evo prices and we are all set! Start saving up....

I don't know...the pricing is good, but I've seen the performance potential from the regular WRX.  With the money saved, you could do plenty of modding to personalize the car the way you want, and only be fractionally less in terms of absolute performance than the STI model....
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

Having gone that route twice I still want a DCCD and the six-speed. If there is a third Subaru in my life it will be the STI. I can get it for less than $44k today if I want  :)
