Why do they use "vera CRUZ & Sonata" fer a Korean KAR...why NOT Kimchi  or Poonyang ;D

Yeah, spicy cabbage rolls, just what I want to drive!  ::) :P ;D

Well, if you exchange the "Y" for a "T", then that would be different.  You could say it suits me to a "T".  :o :rofl2:

As for pooyang, here ya go:
1.     Poonyang

A word used to describe anything undesirable or bad. You can desbride objects, people, places and more with this all- purpose word!
Originated in Ottawa, Canada. There was a young little girl that some people knew and she had a poonstash. Poonstash became abbreviated to poon, which in turn become 'poon-young.' Since 'poon-young' didn't roll off of the tongue so easily, it became poon-YANG.

1. "Dude, you swallowed a floater in the pool? POONYANG!"
2. "I don't want to do this homework, it's poonyang."

Poonstash:
Slang term for moustache. Generally used to describe a woman's.

The little girl had a gross black poonstash! It was like a giant caterpillar!

Since you posted numbers; here is a COMPLETE set for the V6 Camry.  :)

C/D TEST RESULTS:
Zero to 60 mph: 5.8 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 14.5 sec
Zero to 130 mph: 31.0 sec
Street start, 5–60 mph: 6.1 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 14.3 sec @ 99 mph
Top speed (governor limited): 145 mph
Braking, 70–0 mph: 170 ft
Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 0.81 g

FUEL ECONOMY:
EPA city/highway driving: 22/31 mpg

Camry V6 does 0 - 60 mph in 5.8 seconds?  I find that hard to believe.

Talk about a sleeper car.

The problem is that when you mash it the undefeatable traction control kicks in.

That C&D test was in a V6 SE which handles like no other Camry of past so 145 mph or 230 kph is easy.

And I think I heard Hondasalesguy say people were not beating down the doors to get the V6 6-speed version..... So I also wouldn't be surprised if they dropped it.

Might show up in the 08 Accord V6 coupe.

Well, then wouldn't C&D have had to deal with the same issue (the issue of traction)?

If they got 5.8 from an automatic car, I'm sure it could be done by any member of the general public (who has a bit of guts).  ;)

PS: I realize that SE handles a lot better than most Camry's out there given that it has a sportier suspension.  But that has no bearing on what I was talking about earlier.  I wrote sleeper in the context of acceleration and only that.

Not sure if a Mazda3 can outhandle a Camry SE, but I bet a Civic Si could.  ^_^

Folks, this is a thread about the Sonata, NOT the Camry.

I'm sure you could find the appropriate thread elsewhere on this site for your Toyota debates.

Are you a Hyundai rep?  Hehehe.

Well, Camry is a direct competitor of Sonata and we are just discussing acceleration, which I realize is only a part of any car's character.

My question is: How fast is Sonata V6 0 - 60?  7.2?

Caranddriver.com tested the 2006 Sonata LX V6, 0-60 in 6.6 seconds. That was back in 2005.

Yet it remains below the buying radar of many people.

Locally here at least the problem with Hyundai is their dealer network. Their dealers here are among the worst in town, sharks you would rather not deal with, even worse than the usual in that genre.

I can't say enough good about both our Hyundais. My 06 Sonata GLS is a very fine car indeed, and at 46,000 km, it still drives like new. None of the rumored grunts and groans some have reported around the rear suspension. It's very roomy, drives well, and gets good mileage.

I would buy another one just like it if I were in the market. What I like most about Hyundai right now is that they are trying less and less to copy the competition, but just kinda flying below the radar and offering exceptional value for money. It is pretty tough to argue the value - you may not get the best rated car in the world, but for the money, they really don't feel any different than what they are competing against, except, perhaps for the Mazda 6. But then, all the competition is tough to compare with the 6, imo.

1)  Not copying the competition?  Cough Veracruz / RX 350 cough.  That's like, their newest model, isn't it?
2)  Doesn't feel any different than the competition?  Well, it doesn't feel much different from a Camry - I'll give you that.  But the Hyundai really doesn't feel anything like the Altima - or the Accord, for that matter (comparing V6 models).
3) Can't argue with the value factor - it is their strong suit - along with an impressive warranty and solid reliability.  Tepid styling (Veracruz excepted) and poor resale are the downsides.  Poor specific output for their engines and less than scintilating handling dynamics are areas that could stand improvement.

I am impressed with the strides that Hyundai have made and expect great things from them going forward.

Jaeger

PS - I should add that the Azera is pretty good-looking and not an overt clone of anything.

I can see when I'm in them there's areas where they can improve the interior, but I do like the radio high and matching the rest of the upper dash across (others don't, I think it handsomely integrated) versus what's in other Hyundais and pictured in the update. But, hard to judge without seeing more.

If I were shopping mid-sized sedan today, although I like the Accord A LOT, the Sonata's value is just unbeatable.

Exactly.  I paid $18295. plus $1395. transport for my '08 Sonata GL 5 speed.  At that price, nothing can touch it for value.

And what's wrong with a 162 HP 2.4L 4 cylinder?  It's a modern unit and moves the car very well. Remember that +/- 9 second 0-60 MPH was considered sport sedan territory not that many years ago.  Not everybody needs low 5's mainstream sedans.

My biggest complaint so far is an annoying rear package shelf rattle that I hope to get fixed at the dealer tomorrow at 1:00PM.

Also, the mid-life refresh with new interior will come for the '09 MY because the '08's are out since June with no significant changes.
