Today's Test Drive:
2007 Hyundai Sonata GLS V6

2007 Hyundai Sonata GLS V6GLS V6: "Quiet, smooth and powerful", the Sonata GLS V6 is probably the "most under-appreciated car" in its class, says Editor-in-chief, Greg Wilson, particularly as it is "thousands of dollars cheaper" than Accord and Camry.

What more needs to be said?  Another quality iteration of the Sonata, with a price drop on the top of the line model, no less! :o

Yet it remains below the buying radar of many people.  The one good thing about that is the possibility of deals when buying one.

I just scanned the article but I didn't see any mention of Navigation options.  I do remember that one of the promo photos of the car issued before its release in 2005-06 included a DVD Navigation system.  Seems odd not to have that as an option on what is increasingly an "upscale" kind of sedan.

Hyundai launched their top of the line Veracruz without the navigation option and all the other vehicles didn't have them. Instead Hyundai was selling Garmin portable navigation systems at their dealerships.

Hyndai has recently announced navigation for the 2008 Veracruz, co-developed with LG.

LOUSY

That is why the majority of them sold are V6.  I should qualify that.  If you tolerate a 4 banger in a Sunfire then the Sonota 4 should be no worse.  :)

Perhaps not so much the engine as the 4cog slushbox?

Wife parents are 0% buyers so I herded them into a Hyundai dealer for slaughter.  Got the V6 GLS SONOTO in grey.   Beats a Buick.  :)   But it's no V6 Camry in the power/performance department.

Those are AWESOME numbers.  :)  Hey the SONOTO is a fine car for the $$$.  The 4 BANGER is to be avoided IMO.

However, ppl are always trying to compare the SONOTO with either the Camry or the Accord.  Don't.  The comparisons are only valid if $$$ are the main factor.

4 banger Camry or the 08 Accord 4 banger VS a V6 SONOTO  ???  Which say you oh magnificent one?

Since you posted numbers; here is a COMPLETE set for the V6 Camry.  :)

C/D TEST RESULTS:
Zero to 60 mph: 5.8 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 14.5 sec
Zero to 130 mph: 31.0 sec
Street start, 5–60 mph: 6.1 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 14.3 sec @ 99 mph
Top speed (governor limited): 145 mph
Braking, 70–0 mph: 170 ft
Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 0.81 g

FUEL ECONOMY:
EPA city/highway driving: 22/31 mpg

Shame they don't offered a V6 / 5spd manual combo. The styling is probably the best in the generic/band/mid size category.

Not too many makers offer a 5speed V6 in a 4 door sedan family trim.

Nissan has some. Honda Accord offers a stick with the V6 too. Can't think of any other affordable ones.

That's one of the reasons Nissan retained me as a customer when it came time to replace my '01 Maxima.

Camry - no.  Sonata - no.  Mazda 6 - yes, but not a great motor.  I'm not sure if you can get the stick / V6 combo in the Passat, but even if you could, it would cost G35 money.

Honda does offer the V6 stick combo in the Accord Sedan - if only as an afterthought in the last model year of that generation.  It is a pretty sweet combo. It will be interesting to see if they offer it in the all-new '08 model.  Given the tepid exterior styling, I'm guessing no.

the sonata is getting a new interior for 2008 ... looks more like the SantaFe/Veracruz, so the '07s should have some heavy discounts when it gets close to the end of the model year.

And I think I heard Hondasalesguy say people were not beating down the doors to get the V6 6-speed version..... So I also wouldn't be surprised if they dropped it.
