Mmmmmmmmmm, Turbo diesel.  ;D

1,000 highway Kms between fill-ups!  Nice.

Did you notice that the scalloped edging that is shown in the curves on the dash is also reflected in the engine compartment's contours?  It reminds me of the Joker's smile in the first Tim Burton Batman movie.  ;D

Certainly speaks to my inner geezer  ;D   The ONLY car that I would buy that has a slush box.
And it is not THAT expensive... compared to a 535...  and I'll bet the 535D when it arrives will cost more.

Sadly the MB canada site does not yet have this 2007 car to build to get a real price

I actually drove one of these at the 2007 Toronto International Auto Show.  What a magnificent car.  It has incredible torque and the engine is extremely quiet.  I'd buy one in a heartbeat if I could afford it.

Fuel economy is comparable to an efficient economy car, and on the highway it can go up to 1,000 kilometres between fill-ups.

Why don't they include tank size when quoting such a value? Otherwise, this is meaningless.

Otherwise...I would love to test one of these on the hwy. Better yet, put it in the C-Wagon making it 'more' affordable.

Honda has announced its clean diesel for North American sale in, IIRC, 08. So, there will be an affordable, high quality (ie., non-VW), clean diesel on offer shortly.

quadzilla's on to something- a diesel wagon. Honda had a European one at the Envioronment Canada display at the 06 Toronto auto show- even had stick. Who knows?

Or how 'bout this?..
http://www.canadiandriver.com/news/070725-6.htm\

Had no idea some BLUETEC vehicles didn't require AdBlue Urea.

Also didn't know the price had dropped that much. Looking at the ML/GL/R-Class pricing, the CDI would be a no brainer choice for me. Probably now in the E as well.

I'm partial to the Audi A6 and Infiniti M, but have to admit the E-Class really holds its own and is quite stately.

From the article...

Based on the technology, the company has designed a 1.8-litre four-cylinder unit with an output of 238 hp and a maximum 400 NM of torque (295 lb-ft), with fuel consumption of less than 6.0 L/100 km.

That sounds pretty good to me

The Diesotto.  They have to not only make it work but make it work at an acceptable maintenance cost for, say, 320,000 KM minimum. while giving california emissions performance all that time from
-40c to + 45 c from idle to continuous full output.
These things take a year or two to do.

But it does sound neat especially if it is scalable downwards.... I am thinking of a 600cc 3 cyl with 80 bhp and reasonable torque in a  VW Polo sized car at maybe 4-4.5 l/100. Scaling up is easy of course  just glue two together and make a straight 8  ;)

If I had the money, and if it were avaialbe, I'd get a wagon version of this car in a heartbeat!  I loved my old W123 230 sedan.

I think the technology (particularly AdBlue) is great.  But I'm holding out for a C-Class Blutec with a six-speed manual.
