The question to ask is, "why?"  I know the brakes have been downgraded.  One wonders what other corners were cut.

I just went to Subaru Canada HQ today to pick up some of their sponsored prizes for this Sunday event at their parking lot. Subaru also were nice enough to sponsor their car parking lot for our event  this Sunday, they may display a few cars this Sunday.  I looked at the new brochures and their specs for the 2008 lineup. The 5-door hatch is interesting.. but i still prefer the sedan box.

Price is more realistic now..

SOC Price Impreza WRX sedan $32,995
US Price 24,350 Converted to CAN at current exchange 25 387

Difference 7608.

Subaru appears to have held or reduced prices from 07 to 08 on many models. All they have really done is taken slightly less of an enormous profit margin in Canada.

Its their right and people will still buy the cars but don't we deserve a 26 K WRX in Canada? What is that we did wrong?

We must be slipping... it only took 5 posts for somebody to complain about SOC's pricing.  Pick up the slack people!

Compared to other cars on the CANADIAN market, this new impreza is going to be pretty competitive.  Even if it isn't pretty.

For Canada, I think that pricing is very sharp. Have a feeling they come well equipped in all forms, so hopefully this moves more units for them.

I think its a real shame. The legacy is priced up in the 30 to 40 range where I think buyers who are in the market for that type of car can (but not always will) pay that premium price.

But pricing the WRX in the 30s when it is a mid 20s car is a misstep I think. I paid close to 25 K for my 02 Impreza RS that I thought wa aa great little car but not all that well equiped and had only the base 2.5 engine. I burns me to know that people in the US can drive a wrx for basically only a 2k premium over a 2.5i Sport package sedan in canada. I think the extra performance and features of the WRX are easily worth 2K and would have no issue stepping up to that. But a 9 k premim for 2.5 to WRX? Sheesh

Will it make you feel happier if I told you that people in HK pay CAD$40,000 to drive an Impreza RS and $60,000 for a WRX?

And how is a 230+ HP AWD Sports sedan only a "$25,000" car?  That's Civic territory!

I can't think of any other car that's priced in the mid 25's that can compete with the WRX.  The Mazdaspeed3 must also be hideously over priced.  Same too with the GTI.

Seriously, knock it off.  This dead horse can't possibly be beaten anymore.

The $20k and change starting price for the 2.5i is what caught my attention.  That's a couple grand less than the current model, no?

How? I don't have the answer you'd have to ask the thousands of WRX owners who paid 25 K for their 230 hp AWD sports sedan that live on the other side of that imaginary line.

Its a 25K 230 HP AWD sedan if you buy it from a US dealer isn't it?

When I saw the pic of the new Impreza hatch in today's CD news section, my first thought was Chevy Optra5.

3 questions:

When is the STi available there and what cost?

Can you just buy in the US and Subaru will honour the warranty?

What else can you get for the same price/performance?

 :)

Folks in the dead horse camp, please remember to include the 6.1% duty on these vehicles in comparisons.  That cost whether you pay it at the border on import, or the canadian sub of subaru, or any other "foreign" automaker, is part of the very real price.  Doesn't make up the difference, but let's a least flog the correct dead horse.

Yeah but what is the import duty on a Japanese car to the US? That may even things out a bit on that argument (and no I'm wadding into this one).

At the end of the day you compare to what is available in your own country, would it make you feel better if I told you it cost more in the UK?  I doubt it...
