I checked out the Subaru national site, the "driving.ca" site on Canada.com (via the Montreal Gazette) and a local dealer's site in order to compare prices.  I tried to visit a dealer but found that, like weekends, they are closed on holidays.  grrr.

The national site and the local dealer's site seem to agree but the driving.ca site, which purports to link to local dealers, was about $1000.00 more expensive the regular hatch edition and $2000.00 more expensive for the Impreza 2.5 Sport edition.

Anyway, I completed the form online just for the fun of it and found that a Sport edition could be had for a reasonable price.  From what some people are saying around here, that might drop even further.

What I'm not clear on is what was improved in the 08 model from the 07 edition.  Can anyone point me to a quick summary of the changes?

Really, all you need to know is that it's a generational update of the Impreza... so I would say that MANY things have changed from 07 to 08... doesn't Subaru's online brochure list them all?

The online brochure lists what the new model has "now".  I want to know what has "changed".  At least one local dealer is offering some interesting discounts on 2007 Imprezas, so knowing what has been altered (for better or worse) is important.

I've a hard time telling the difference b/t the new Impreza and the Chevy hatchbacks or a Corolla.

The engine used is still the EJ255. Peak power and torque as the same, but the peak power will output at 5600 rpm and the peak torque delivery will be at 2800 rpm. The sedan version has a two exhaust outlets while the hatchback will have one exhaust outlet on the right. The car is based on a shortened Legacy platform. The front suspension uses a MacPherson strut setup while the rear is a new double wishbone suspension. The steering ratio will be 15:1. The interior will borrow from the Legacy interior. The US-spec WRX will revert back to a 2-piston/1-piston sliding calipers (dropping the 4-piston/2-piston fixed caliper setup). The calipers and rotor setup are the same found on the BL5-chassis US-spec Legacy 2.5GT and Spec B. The wheels will be 17" x 7" and will wear 205/50 R17 all season tires. Aluminum parts have been dropped due to the rising costs. The gas tank has grown from 15.9 gallons to 16.9 gal. The car's weight has not substantially increased and will be 3142 lb (1425 kg) for the 5 speed manual and 3208 lb (1455 kg) for the 4 speed automatic.

My local Subaru dealer gave me a quote for a 08' 2.5i, Sport Pkg, AT Sedan at 3% off MSRP (about $750 off)...any good? They aren't even in stock yet! No haggling, I just asked "give me a discount."...

Talked with my dealer yesterday and they offered $700 off the 2.5i Auto 4 door. That's slightly more than half the markup on the base car so I'm somewhat happy with that.

Why not just buy from the states?? Van Bortal Subaru in NY will do all th epaper work for you.  You could probably get a WRX for almost the same price if you get it from the states.  That's what I plan to do when my lease is up.

Its a great option if you are a cash buyer. If you want to lease or use Subaru financing it is not feasible.

Finance rates for the 08 imprezas are pretty crappy anyways.  A bank loan would almost be as good and you'd have a way better car.  Leasing is different.  Subaru uses GMAC as thier leasing company and from what I remember when I wantd to lease a legacy gt thier rates and residuals were pretty crappy too.

No. Time factor - the car is one model year older and they are cleaning house. Had you gone after an 06 instead of the 07 you would have had a discount there.
