Nice look in front.  The new, snub-nose grille resembles that of Audi to my mind.  Maybe it's the whole front.

The back?  Well, the back is... bizarre.  Blecch.

I like the new styling of the 70 series, very classy.  Its a shame North American market V70 will not be offered with manual tranny any longer, also the base model 5 cylinder no longer offered.

Regarding the face lifted S40/V50, it should be noted that the T5 engine gets a performance hike of 10 horsepower, giving an output of 230 hp for MY2008.

Traditional Volvo and then some. Expensive but very nice and wonderfully versatile.

Nice update. I find the top of the interior's dash across kind of a fat flat slab, but otherwise nice blending of styles and materials. Not so fond of the Ikea wood - I'd go with another. Otherwise does lend it a different feeling compared to a German or American car. LOVE the guages.

The swirly wheels on the V70 are back!  :D

I think the XC70 looks a lot better than the outgoing model.

Like the front on both... the rear is okay - not better nor worse to me.

Yup, that's a huge con IMO. Styling wise I think it looks great, and like SAM said, those wheels do look great, glad they're back.

So, according to this article, the new-gen V70 is based on the new-gen S80.

Was the last-gen V70 based on the S60?  ???

And what is going to happan to the next-gen S60? Dropped?

With the arrival of the C30 as the new base Volvo, I've heard rumors that a smaller-midsize sport sedan will replace both the S40 and the S60.

The previous S80, V70/XC70 S60 and XC90 were all on the same platform P2 It was designed by Volvo before the Ford purchase.
Ford modified this P2 platform called it D3 which the out going FiveHundred. Freestyle Crossover and Mercury Montego used.

The new S60 is due for MY2009, and is based on the same platform (EUCD) as the new S80, V70/XC70, new Mondeo, S-Max, Galaxy (eurovan), next Mazda6. and new LandRover LR2.
