So we are looking for a utility trailer and other than buying used, this seems to be a good option:

 - Sides and gates are removable
 - Ribbed steel flooring provides added traction and durability
 - Tilts for easy loading and unloading
 - 1,998 lb. GVW / 1,565 lb. payload capacity
 - 12" highway rated tires

More on it here: http://www.snowbeartrailers.ca/page/Model_6000

Available from CT for $800  http://www.canadiantire.ca/browse/product_detail.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=1408474396672514&bmUID=1181741768153&PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524443289075&assortment=primary&fromSearch=true

Any thoughts on this?  I am new to this trailer buying thing.

There are a great deal for a light utility trailer. It would cost you over $1500 to get one fabed up at a local shop. I would not use it to haul camping gear down rough logging roads but are great for hauling stuff around.

Many people have them up here for hauling stuff to the camp, cottage or camp site behind SUVs and minivans. It is a nice solution for owing a car or SUV vs. a truck when needing to haul stuff intermittingly.

An 8’ long model (9000) would be better IMHO.

It is still in pieces, it is foldable and on casters.  I'm going to reconfigure it to be 4.5x4 ish.

Cool, good find

And thanks Snowi for your insight, we will be using it as you described, mostly to pick up lumber, move bigger/dirty items and make runs to the dump.   And it can be towed by the van if required.  We have paid over the last 3-4 years more than what the trailer is worth to hire someone to come and take our junk away and now my wife wants a major re-do of part of the yard, including removing a large shrub so it seems to make sense to get some sort of cheap trailer.

I like its versatility, the way the front and rear gates can be used to make a flat deck as well as the sides being removables and a tilting deck to boot.

Where do you guys park these things when not in use?

It will go in the back yard in winter when not being used, or on the side of the driveway.  No room in the garage what with the Sienna and Pathy in there.    :light: may look at hanging it from the ceiling in the garage though.

DON'T BUY! Here is why: Snowbear trailer (also known as discontinued StrongBoxTrailer) has 2 plywood strips on floor, which will rot away in less than 18 months. It should not be a problem to change it, if it was not for way it is attached to frame: nailed to steel frame crossmembers. Very hard to repair that one.  I am sorry I did not buy galvanized trailer for $200 less, with all steel floor.  Black "powder" coating on Snowbear will show rusty spots in about 12 months. The way rails are connected on top perimeter is also questionable: Holes suposed to be for connecting bolt or snap rings don't align at all being off by about 2 inches. I really miss some hooks to secure cargo which is lower than side rails, bungee cords have not even one anchoring point near the flooring. Although there are plenty of anchoring bars on exterior, but that serves well only for cargo higher than rails.  Also I just found on their site, they provide 6 months warranty. Not enough! I would not buy Snowbear again.

If space is a concern then I highly recommend a Lifetime folding trailer. A little noisy unloaded but it flods up to 29" wide so it fits on the side of the house.

About $1k or less a C Tire.

Look on Kijiji.ca or flip through the Triad.  I bought a heavy duty trailer through there for the same money as that Snowbear.
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

I think you really need to try buying Snowbear Model 6000. Looking at its features, it seems to be pleasing. I know, all its features meet your taste of a  trailer.
