Certainly looks promising - I've got one of those GM Credit cards with a couple thousand in points too.

Yes, me too, but if the Cobalt and Ion are good indicators, the maximum redemption allowance on the Astra would probably be about $1,500, which still isn't bad, if the car comes in at about $17,000 base.

Ah I wondered if there was a maximum. I had visions of getting a free Aveo with points  :rofl2:

Obviously not. That's what I meant by, "this link from the detailing section".  I posted it here for people who don't read the detailing section...

I probably would have stuck with Saturn if they had the Astra back in 2006.

Good review here: http://en.autos.sympatico.msn.ca/guides_and_advice/article.aspx?cp-documentid=5926444

Quote
While the Ion was OK, it was poorly suited for battle with the likes of Corolla, Mazda3, and Civic which dominate this class. But, the Astra can stand head-to-head giving up nothing under the harsh glare of direct and objective comparison.
Are these on the road yet?

Regarding the interior, here's a shot from the Saturn USA webpage:

Pretty nice for the class.

It looks like another GM "Sea of Gray" job to me. Not impressed.

I saw one unit sold last month in Canada. I called a Saturn dealer few weeks ago, before the Holidays, and they said they would get them in January. I'll check back soon when I get a chance.
I too want to seat in and drive one soon just to see how it is. I like the design, especially the interior (I like grey/silver interior  ;D).

Just saw a pile of them yesterday but not at the dealer. They were at the Autoport in Dartmouth. This is where they probably originate from.
Aren't they shipped from Europe?. From there they are shipped all across Canada by rail.

According to the sales numbers, 1 was sold in December. Do you actually have to take delivery of one before it is considered a 'sale'?

Anyone else see the Cdn Astra 'cool' commercial with the 3dr? Red is hot on it.

They come from Belgium.

No.

Like I have already said. I'm going to buy a Astra used in a few years. I know they will loose a fortune like all GM's do. So I'm just going to bide my time and swoop in and buy one cheap. I think I should be able to pick one up for around 10 in 2 years. ;D :P ;D

I sat in one at Leaside Saturn Saab, the seats are really comfortable and interior is pretty much like what you see in the pics, the LCD screen was smaller than I thought and the dash was not completely to my liking.  It felt big sitting inside and there was plenty of space behind. It was a XE model with the 17" rims, red, its definitely a looker, inside and out.  I couldn't test drive, they only had one model (the one in the showroom) and that was already sold a few weeks ago.  The rep behind the desk mentioned they'd be coming into dealerships starting end of January, but to be honest,  I'm doubting that.

The Astra already nearing its 4th year of production, I'd assume a new model would be launched by summer 2009 (around the same time as the new Rabbit & Mazda3) ?

Yup.
