And Clarkson typically hates all things BMW.

"And now we spool forward 30 years to find that round where I live there are women with crisp shirts and nice hair who make a living by decorating other people’s Christmas trees. Don’t you find that amazing?"

I love Brit car reviews...they seem to actually care about the art of writing.

Wow...an impressive review...sounds like I should into one...from the US!

Agreed.  When was the last time a North American writer said something like this in such a matter-of-fact way:  "And we all loved it more than we loved our genitals."  Truly, those Brits get BMW the way I do.   ;D

He did warm up for the new M3 eventually, though. Anyone who has not seen the latest episode of Top Gear (e10xs10) should watch it for an entertaining shootout between the M3, RS4 and C 63 AMG.

Canadian Pricing: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3741

"135i
MSRP 41700
Nav 2900
Premium 3500
comfort 3000
Prem Sound 1200
Msport 1600

128i

MSRP 33900
Nav 2900
Premium 2700
comfort 2400
Prem Sound 1200
Sport 2500"

I actually thought the damage would be worse.  A 135i + MSport package is less than the stipper 328i Coupe's MSRP.  That's a pretty good price (relatively speaking of course).

Lease rates will likely be harsh on this thing, but I don't think the value is too bad if you're not looking to add all the luxo options.  If you are, then shame on you ;D

Pricing is very sharp, right where I would place it if I were them. Be prepared to see a lot of these on the road.

128i w/ Premium, M-Sport, and SEO colour please  :D  BMW has a nice selection of colours coming, but I like something different.

So no word on the 123i for Canada?

Pricing is reasonablely good for the Canadian market.
This will definately outsell the Audi A3, even if Audi brought in the A3 cab.

Agree that the price of the 135i + Msport is mighty attractive.

..............

Don't think there will be a 123i here.

And looking at US pricing, the ratio has been narrowed to 1:1.18, still not on par but better than the 3 series 1:1.26

Doesn't make sense to bring a 123i... not with the low pricing of the 128i or the prestige factor BMW needs to maintain in North America.

Could outsell GTI and A3 together (not quite B-Class levels). I would say it would, but not everyone wants or can get by with a 2dr coupé... specifically one this small. But do expect to see them often.

I still fail to understand this "small engine =/= prestige/luxury"  statement.
Is it just a North American thing.

I don't think the failure of the 318ti was because of the engine choice.

Wow, the sales guy I spoke to at Budds' back in the early autumn was right on.  He told me $41k + M-sport optional (despite all the reports).

Question is, will the base 135i have a sport suspension and seats (ie., a 'normal' BMW sport pkg) with the M-sport pkg being mostly cosmetic (subtle trunk spoiler, side skirts, bigger wheels, m-sport badging, etc.)?

Also... I fear you're right about the leasing costs on this little guy too.  Only time will tell.

Nearly $44k with the M-sport... or, about the same cost for a G35 S 6-speed.  Hmmm....

Nice base pricing but to equip the 135i like an STI it is over $50k.

You can't buy that much ugly for a BMW though, Snowman.   ;D

If you step through the link there is an image of a fax with all the details.  135i comes with sport suspension, sport seats are in sports package or can be a stand alone option.

Priced out a 128 and 135 the way I would want them and included all the fees and taxes except PST/GST and got an almost even $45k for a 128 and $50k for a 135.

Looks like I will indeed be cross shopping the 135i, A3 3.2, and Evo X.  Only risk is I get cheap and look at a used A3 3.2 or Ralliart - 128i isn't a big enough drop to get me there vs a 135.

I assume that is the new generation Ralliart, not the old one.

Hmm... very interesting.

I'll definitely be keeping my eyes on this one.

If it comes down to it that the residuals / rates don't work in favour for attractive 135i leasing, I think I'd choose a 328i sedan over a 128i with a few bells n' whistles.  The weight difference isn't that significant and I do certainly like the styling (and practicality) of the larger car better.  But again, if G35 deals are to be had, that's a whole 'nother kettle o' fish.

Jeff,

The M Sport package includes all the M goodies (Wheel, shifter, rims), Sport Seats, and the anthracite headliner (which looks much better.  Certainly worth $1600 in my mind.

The other options?  Typically pricey like most German makes.

I can't imagine anyone buying the A3 3.2, with the 135i available now (unless you have kids or soul-sucking wife...muahaha)

Also Jeff, the G37 M6 Sport is $49,9k I thought? Unless you mean the sedan?  But then that's a little apples to oranges I'd say.

Some guy on that board just took delivery of 135i with the sport package (euro model), but it has the M wheels us canucks will get:
http://www.marknauta.nl/bmw135i.php

Very nice.
