That thing has 450hp/480lbft in 3200 pounds!! YIkes, the article said you'd have to have racing skills to even drive it moderately well.

Think I'd pass.. ;) ;) :drive2:

I'm sure this beast is far ahead of many member's driving abilities.....I know it's more than I could handle.

Performance

Peak Power: 450 bhp
Peak torque: 480 lb-ft
0-60mph: 4.6 sec.
Top speed: 188 mph

The 0-60 time seem a bit conservative for all that power, maybe too much power. The real M3?  :)

The 135i still seem more attractive with the aftermarket power upgrade, probably a lot more live-able vehicle on a daily basis.

The 1 series was developed to bring back basic driving dynamics of the the old BMW cars,  from 1970s and the 1980s, like the 2002 (roughtly the same physical size), and the original Yuppie Mobiles, the E30 3-series.  :)

Certainly nowhere near the same weight - unfortunately!  :P

Having had 3 2002s, I can assure you that the new 1 Series will have a hell of a lot more power than the old 2002 did. Even the 128i will have 230hp, over double the 2002s. Most 2002s had a bit over 100 hp, and the Ti and Tii models only added 20 or so more ponies. Why does everyone want to go back to the old days of low weights and no protective devices, low power, and raw driving environment?? (That should get some responses).  ??? ;)

Mmmmmmmm, that's more like it!

BMW Concept 1 Series tii - from E60net website - for all 1 Series fans - should be a very hot one:

I can't think of a single other car who benefits aesthetically this much from racing stripes and aggressive bodykit.  I'm iffy on the normal 1-Series, but this car is HOT!

Incidently, those wheels on the Concept tii in the pix are very similar to the summer wheels I want to get for the 535xi (keeping the ones on the car on arrival for winters).

That 135 tii speaks to me, and you know what it says?

"Luxury car?  Naw, I'm no luxury car.  Rich man's track toy?  Are you kidding?  Man, a moderately-well-off college kid owns me, and on the weekends, we autocross against EVOs and STIs.  So do you wanna play or not?"

Dammit BMW, it's about time you got back to a car that exudes this sort of attitude.

Bunch of shots of the tii concept from the Tokyo show.  That thing looks killer.  Wonder if a similar bodykit would be available for the 135i.  Doubtful... given that it comes standard with the M bodykit, but man does that look nice.

I'm betting they'll do a limited-edition 135 tii to generate more press for the normal 135i.  Maybe even with a tii race series.

Think they should name it TwinTurboInside instead of tii.  :)

Try to say "TTI" as one word instead of three letters.  The results are not good advertising.

There is history to think of here. The tii was famous in it's day. I think tii is the right way to name it.

Well, the 2002 tii was made from 1972 to 1974. It was the regular 2 door sedan with the 1990cc 4 cyl engine, with Kugelfischer fuel injection (regular 2002s were carbed). There were also some tii's in Canada in the 2002 Hatchback body style but these are rare today. The tii would do 0-60 in 9.8secs, with a top end of 118MPH. The thing only weighed 2225# and had 130hp/130lbft.

Previous to the tii, there was the "ti" in 2002 form. Can't recall it, but think it was not injected.  ???

EDIT - the "tii" stands for "touring, international, injected". I think (?) the previous "ti" model was for "touring, international" but wasn't injected. Thus the second "i" was added once the Kugelfischer injection was added. I can find no references to the 2002ti, but lots of links to the 2002tii. I know the ti existed because a friend of mine in the Calgary Sports Car Club had one in 1971.

Here is what the "touring" model for 2002 BMW looks like:

That color is called "inka". Considered "hot" in the day.  ;D
