Was reading about the 120d in the current edition of BMW Magazine (published in Canada).  Has an auto start-stop function to cut down on idling fuel consumption.  I love the look of the new hatchback, much better than the coupe.  Are they just teasing us or are we getting the 120d here?   :-\

Nope, we won't. We will only be getting 2 coupes:

the 128i, and the 135i.

And then perhaps a convertible coupe.

NA tastes dictate no hatchback.  :(

Not too many people here buy BMWs for the practicality and utility of them. BMW would NOT sell a basic version here, with no gizmo and just a decent power train. The E36 318ti was a flop here, popular in EuroLand.

BMW of America  do not wish to sell either a hatchback or a 4 cylinder BMW.

BMW of Canada may want to (but are unlikely to be allowed by BMW of America)  bring in a hatch or a 4 cyl ( gas or diesel).

No linki but a distillation from the BMW Car club of America's discussions etc. with BMW USA over a couple of years. Needless to say a lot of BMWCCA members WOULD like a 120 hatch... probably as their 4th bmw or just to own a set... there are some well off people in that club.

You probably already know this, but just in case. On Bimmer forums, they say it's the 3-series that will get the diesel.

I suspect BMW will bring the 3 Series diesel to NA within the next 2-3 years. Just my guess.

All that is required to bring any sold in Germany 3,5 or 7 series diesel to Canada is to put in the latest emissions controls on the engine and load it on the boat with the requisite spare parts.  For  America as well  they'd need the USA labels on the idiot lights  and either to give up on California/NY  sales for a bit or put on the new new new emission controls.... which may not be fully certified for all cars yet.

Of course its a bit more complicated than that but not much.
US spec exterior mirrors, DOT markings on the various plastics around the lights, the US lenses on the HIDs,  the big NA airbags, English manuals with the "u"s taken out of some words.

but they have all that stuff already.

The X3 diesel for Canada may be on the boat already.

I doubt you will see the 135i under $40K even as base price. My guess is more like low $40s to start, and a loaded up one will clearly be into 3 Series territory. But, maybe?

I think so too. The BMW salesman I talked to predicts the pricing will parallel the 3-series coupe pricing, and not the (lower priced) 3-series sedans. That makes total sense to me.

128i? okay, maybe barely below $40K to start.

Is it me or does it has a hint of an Accent shape?

I thought 'Accent' the moment I saw a pic of this car. I guess I'm not alone. :hurl:

I guess that "affordable" was taken out of the 1-series equation when BMW saw they had a hit on their hands.  :'(
