Choosing a car based on reliability is like choosing a wife based solely because she is punctual. There is more to it than that...

Retired already  I am pre authorized for a 335i.   Its even in the financial plan for 2008 or 2009.  It will probably be the last new expensive car I'll own.
I may well buy a diesel instead tho'   but not a 1 series coupe although I guess I will be in the thundering herd going to the dealer to look as soon as they appear.  I do sometimes wonder if a nearly new 5-er or  E320 mught not suit my new ex-urban image better  or even a pickup truck

In my mind, the 335i is the route to go, but I don't know at this early stage if it would be the coupe or the sedan. I have rejected the E91 wagon idea as wifey hates the wagon idea and there's no sense fighting for a wagon over a coupe or even sedan (if we keep the HL as is the current plan). The 335i Cab is sweet but just too much money!! So, it would likely be an E92 Coupe or E90 sedan in 335 guise. The 135i is neat, but I think the 3Series makes more sense for the two of us. Have to see the 135 in person tho.

Too early yet.  :P

An E91 wagon could never touch the Highlander in terms of practicality.  However, especially given how much you loved driving a 328i, I think that a 335i or 135i could easily exceed the fun value of the Mustang as your toy and as your daily driver.  If I were you, and the wife vetoed three vehicles due to finances, the Mustang would be looking for a new owner.

Just my $0.02.

And yes, that's 40 six-packs without even using the rear seat.

Agree totally that the E91 does not touch the HL for practicality. And, yes, I did enjoy my drives in the 328xiT and the 328i sedan.  ;D And, again, can't argue with the logic that a fun daily driver like the 335i could replace the Mustang (which is not a winter driver at all). If we keep the HL, which is the current thinking (I like the size and the new one is larger and for what?), and sell/trade both the Solara and the Stang, the 335i can get close to being a reality.

I'll take your $0.02 even if the US $ is only worth about 93c Cdn now.... ;) ;D

If you could get the cover down, then nobody will steal your boozes!@!!1111!

Oh right 1-Series. I like the 128 or Diesel, but the price savings over a 3-Series have to be really tangible. Also would have liked it if the front was a bit more aggressive and less...friendly.

Will we see the 123d here though? For some reason I think not. After all, nobody would want 204hp (torque not listed, though one would think around 250?), 7 seconds to 100, and 44MPG (US!). Nobody.

I've been starting to think my shortlist for future cars (ultimately replacing the current Miata). It does`t have to be a convertible next time around (in fact, I do not want a softtop)

This 135 could be IT. If this thing can be had for under $50K CAD, it will be numero uno on my potential list. The idea of a small tight handling driver`s coupe with a smooth turbo sixer putting out 300+ HP through a balance chassis is making me giddy.

My shortlist:
1. 135
2. Evo
3. STi
4. Mazdaspeed MX-5 PRHT (turbo version if ever)
5. Acura TSX (when Honda releases a turbo 4 AWD version)

I`m liking what I see so far about this 135. It looks ok, nothing offensive about it, but I`ll bet this thing will be incredible to drive.

If they ever offer a auto-manual (ala VW DSG), that would be a bonus feature (I`d like to try something of that nature in my next car)

300HP for the size of the car seems a little excessive to me.
I'd personally take the 128 and save the money and gas.  ::)

Oh, an it look like it's going to have the 6-speed auto with manual shifting as an option. :)

I really wasn't so sure about this 1-series when the first spy shots started coming in.

But now...it's really growing on me.  The thought of a lightweight little RWD coupe with BMW's typical handling dynamics and pushing 300+hp??  NICE!

I'm reeeeally interested to see what the pricing comes out to.  If I could get a well-equipped 135i out the door for under $50K...very tempting  :)

That's for sure, and I can't see where a well-equiped 135i should be any more than $50K, probably less; otherwise it's bumping into 335i territory.

Well I certainly hope so.  I think the A3 3.2 Quattro will be about the price point. It starts at MSRP of about $45-46K and has very little options.

From the sounds of the press releases, the 135i will come very loaded with all kinds of M-sport stuff.  And I wouldn't opt for the iDrive/Nav combo option anyway.

But wait a second...what the heck are a couple of Mustang GT-driving rednecks doing discussing a baby BMW coupe anyway??? :P

;D ;D Good one!! I can come up with about 5 reasons to justify looking at the BMWs, but I doubt anyone on here would believe us me at least anyway.  ;)

Sedan is more practical, and has better/easier resale. Besides, I really like the look of the E90 sedan (I like the coupe also, don't get me wrong); but, the sedan has  classic good looks and you can haul 4 easily when you need to. Weight, length and most other dimensions are same for sedan and coupe.
