Toyota Yaris sedan has competition.  :rofl2:

???  They're both red and they both have trunks, but besides that I don't see many similarities in either individual components (taillight shape, C-Pillar shape) or the overall effect.

I am sorry, it was a joke.  ::) :-X A luxury car in the subcompact segment.

My bad, I misunderstood you, thought that you were saying we had another Jetta/Corolla situation.

And is the 1-series really a subcompact?  I assumed it would be a compact--something about the size of older 3-series coupes, Acura RSXs, etc.  The new 3-series is essentially as large as a Subaru Legacy.  I'd love to see some dimensions on this car.  It's hard to tell these things from pictures.

That's fairly light.

Eight inches shorter than a Civic coupe, and the same width as one.  This would fall somewhere between compact and subcompact.

But I question the veracity of those stats.  Partially because the vehicle hasn't been officially unveiled yet, and partially because the claimed curb weight of this inline-six RWD coupe is the same as an inline four, FWD Civic coupe  ???

Yeah, those previous stats can't be right.  They would make the coupe shorter than the hatchback, and a coupe with a 3.0L inline-six roughly 250 lbs lighter than an inline-four hatchback.  Thanks for that info.

Just read that they offer a 123d in Europe.
204hp
0-100km in 7.0s

The 120d is rated at 177hp and does 0-100 in 7.6s

Why can't we got those engines here? (and in a hatchback please, because the coupe is just not practical)

The official rundown on the BMW 135i Coupe goes like this: 306 horsepower, 295 lb-ft from 1,300 - 5,000 rpm, Zero to 62 mph in 5.3 sec, and a 155 mph top speed. Fuel economy is rated at over 25 mpg (US) in the European combined cycle.

As for the diesels, they sound pretty good, too -- particularly the 123d, which benefits from BMW's Efficient Dynamics program (Stop/Start, brake regeneration, active aero, etc). In addition to being rated at over 44 mpg (US) in the combined cycle. the 123d is gutsy. Its twin-turbocharged 1998cc diesel four-cylinder makes 204 horses -- that's over 100 hp/liter. The run to sixty takes 7 seconds and it tops out at 148 mph. The entry-level 120d also gets the Efficient Dynamics tech, but makes 177 horses. It's performance is a slight downgrade from the 123d (.6 seconds longer to 60 mph) but it beats it in fuel economy.

Of all of those, the 120d intrigues me the most.

Dear Mrs. Mitlov,

I'm a good husband and a good father.  I bust my butt every day to pay the rent and take care of our baby.  When I read deposition transcripts for eight hours, it's all for you, baby.  And I'm a pretty selfless guy.  You know how last night, when Jackson vomited in his high chair, and an hour later pooped in the bathtub, I cleaned up both?  And I didn't complain about it?

So don't I deserve a little treat?  We could share my Subaru and call it the family car, and I could have a little something-something as my daily driver to work and the store.  I won't check any options boxes.  I'll be happy with leatherette and manually adjustable seats.  But please, baby, can I have a 1-series coupe?  Pleeeeeeeease?

Lovingly whipped,
Mr. Mitlov
