Who cares, it's an over-priced poor VW Golf impersonator.

I don't think we will get them this year, you would think they would have announced it by now... unless they are going for a surprise attack.

I bet we will get the same as the USA   a coupe and a convertible with the 6 cyl only. Maybe announced in the fall for spring 2008 intro.
I would not be surprised if we did not lose the 323i to make price room for the 1-series.... sensible people would snap up the last 323s if that happened.

I heard that we will get a diesel 3 series maybe late in 2008 as a 2009.

yep me too!

But I would look hard at a "proper" 1 -series.  hatchback, 4 cyl diesel or gas  but I would rather have a 323 sedan than a 1-series coupe even if the 1-series was fster. And once one is into the 3 series line one may as well break the budget completely and buy a 335. ( as my non-existent kids dont drain me dry  ;) :D ;D )

trouble is Airb for the amount of driving I do now I may as well get another Fit or a jetta tdi

???

The 1-Series is RWD; the Golf is FWD.  Plus, the North American 1-series will be a coupe, not a hatchback.

Yeah, blame the American with the four-cylinder wagon  ;D

Anyway, you want a four-cylinder hatchback built by BMW?

That is a mismatch of design, and a complete pig's ear of a car.

Mitlov I was referring to the cars being in the same segment in the UK.  Regardless of it being RWD, it still an over-priced hatchback, the top of the range one is nearly $75K in the UK!

I'll reserve judgment until I see the unmasked product.  This photoshop (I think) is promising, in my book:

the 323 CIC with maintence wll last a long time and is not bad on gas, and I have to really put a lot cash away for retirement so really I have try make do with what I have :'(

Ok maybe fugly was harsh :P  The silver picture looks better but the rear looks odd.

I hope the diesel makes it to Canada.  Besides Honda is releasing there Diesel sometime in '08 '09 and may compete with BMW.  I had the opportunity to drive the 1 Series in Austria for a couple of hours the week of the official launch. Lots of power in the diesel version, 2.0 litre. Big minus for this car is rear seat entry and room.  Still I think this car will be out of touch for the average consumer for what it is. It will probably be priced in line with the AUDI A3, 32k +.

I very much doubt there will be a diesel 1 series in NA. The cheapest diesel 3 series will be in the high $40k range if not just over $50k...form what I have seen in the BMWCCA mag it will be a 335D not a 320D. I hope that they are wrong on that.
