Congrats!

We EXPECT pictures.  ;D

BMW Canada's website doesn't show the 1 Series yet...so I can't dream and build one.  :'(

Here's a pic of a LeMans Blue 135i: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2299&highlight=lemans+blue

Those are the same wheels he's getting as well.  Just swap the in the shadowline (black) trim around the windows, black interior and add an orange reflector (non-Euro version) and that's about exactly what it'll look like.

Very sweet

Extremely attractive. I really like that Lemon interior too, tho know I'm in the minority there. The blue looks kind of dark there with the lighting comparing to some other links of the colour...

Dave, if you haven't seen it yet (though I'm sure you have), the current Car and Driver issue features the 135i on the cover.  It's blue too -- (though not 'foo foo blue' like yours, heh heh).  They seemed to really love the car, squawking only about the cost really (oh, and the snug footwells).  Interestingly, no mention of the alleged understeer problems.  They claimed it feels very much like its big 3-series brother in terms of handling.

Looks great!

I just wish it came in a hatch like Euro land.  This thing as a hatch would be the ultimate in toy and practicality.

The new STI fits that bill.......

Yeah, but the STI costs too much... and is even worse for fuel economy and insurance.  :(  (don't think I haven't considered one)...  ;D

Thanks all.

GD, yes, I have read the May Car and Driver.  That 135i is Monaco Blue.  Very nice but it might as well be black.  I promised myself that my next car wouldn't be black even though it's probably my favorite colour.  The maintenance on my black RSX has been a huge pain.  I'm far too anal to have another black car.

LeMans blue was a happy medium between Montego (brightest) and Monaco.  Sunlight really changes it's appearance...it can look like Montego in direct sunlight and much darker other times.

I didn't really look at the STI.  I considered the EVO GSR...but I found it a little overpriced in comparison to the 135i.  The 1 series is a better package for my needs as it is a little more "refined".  Practicality be damned.

Took my car in for an early oil/filter today, and noted in the showroom, a new 128i Convertible. While the base price on this car was $39K and change, the ton of options added to this one made the sticker just over $50K (and it's not the 135i). That's expensive for a 128i but it did have every option. It was also SOLD. There is also a 135i Coupe on the lot, and the sticker on it is just over $48K. The inside 128i Convertible was a metallic grey, with a cream beige leather interior, it was sharp.

Took our MINI for a repair at the local BMW dealership today. Saw a 135i coupe in the showroom. Very nice in the red metal colour, whatever it is called. Had a look at the price tag. Base was 55k euros + 5k worth of options. That comes up to about 95k Canadian, taxes in. There was also a very nice M3 sedan, in Monaco blue I believe, right next to the 135i. Didn't bother checking the price. Got a 116i hatchback loaner. S-l-o-w, but at least I can enjoy the four doors while it lasts.

Opting for any of these?

http://www.canadiandriver.com/thenews/2008/04/07/bmw-canada-introduces-performance-accessories.htm

April 7, 2008

BMW Canada introduces performance accessories
Whitby, Ontario – BMW Canada has announced a new line of BMW Performance accessories, including chassis, powertrain, aerodynamics and interior components specially developed for a range of BMW vehicles. The products are part of a completely new category within the 2008 Original BMW Accessories catalogue, and all are engineered specifically for each BMW model.

The catalogue is launching with parts for the 3 Series sedan, coupe, cabriolet and touring; Z4 roadster and coupe; and 1 Series coupe and cabriolet. If installed at the time of new-vehicle purchase, the components are covered by the same terms and conditions as the new vehicle warranty; if installed separately, they carry a two-year, unlimited-mileage warranty.

The new performance products include an engine power upgrade kit, performance exhaust, air intake system, performance differential, strut brace, suspension kit, and performance wheels and brakes. Body kits include carbon fibre components, high-gloss grille and décor stripes kit, while interior packages include short shift kit, performance wheel, carbon fibre accessories and polished aluminum pedals. The products are now on sale at all BMW retailers.

Not at this point.  The 300+ hp and lb ft of torque are more then enough to get me into serious trouble.  Also, convincing my wife that the car needs performance upgrades already would be a stretch  ;)

With the options available you'll be able to make your own 135tii: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlLdJRqIWtE

Who knows what the future holds for my car...I just can't wait for it to get here!

After seeing that the interior was barely smaller than a TSX on paper (three inches less rear legroom, but otherwise equivalent), I swung by the local dealership to take a quick look at the 1-Series.  For anyone who is curious, that's only on paper.  I'm 5'6", and my hair was brushing the headliner in the rear seat.  Legroom was very tight in back.  The front seat had all the legroom you'd ever want, but headroom was tight.

Seats were typical BMW (maybe some like that, but they don't fit me right somehow, particularly when compared to VW and Volvo seats).  Interior also was typical BMW (once again, maybe some like it, but it's not really my taste).

From the outside, the car looks much better in person than in pictures.

The salesmen acted offended when I asked if I could see if my toddler seat would fit in back.  Said he didn't want the interior all scuffed up.  I'm sorry, I didn't realize that your vinyl seats scuff that easily...  ::)

The salesmen made very clear that I was an annoyance to them, so I didn't bother to ask for a test-drive.  I'm sure it's superb to drive, but IMO it's a two-seater with a padded parcel shelf in back.

There is some truth to that review. BMW COULD have made a lighter prettier car and if they had it would have "eaten the 3-series lunch"  There is no doubt it is too heavy. They could have put those twin turbos on the 320/318 4 cylinder engine. the coupe rather than hatch thing is BMWNA marketing as is the lack of a 4 cylinder.

Whatever.     I won't buy one 'cos it has no back seat room, no AWD and the price is close enough to a 3-er.

There's a huge difference between "making what the majority of North American luxury-marque buyers want instead of what hardcore track enthusiasts want" and "intentionally botching a car."  I think everyone agrees that BMW did the former with the 128i/135i, but the latter is inflammatory rhetoric and just plain wrong.  I quit reading the TTAC review when it went down the latter road.

IMO, TTAC saw that Top Gear got popular by bashing cars, and tried to do the same.  But they missed the fact that Top Gear's bashing is witty and funny, whereas TTAC's just comes off as bitter.
