Tata motors to produce world least expensive car

The 'new' people's car from Indias biggest car company, Tata Motors would only cost roughly $2,000-$2,500 USD and with this vehicle Tata Motors are hoping to be able to have as much of a success as the T-Ford did back in the day. For reference , when the T-Ford came out in 1908 it costed what would have been equivalent to $19,700 USD in todays money.

I can't even imagine what kind of car it would be.

Suzuki has assembled cars, supplied components to local manufacturers. Most of those small cheap cars are made on Suzuki platforms, stripped out versions. This wants to 'under do' all those little cars.

European and Japanese micro cars would feel very very substantial compared to this. A Smart to E-Class.

If there were no safety standards to worry about a small, light car with a plastic body and little rear engine would be quite fine. Think a new age 2CV with a motor, some seats and no much else.

yes.  flat sided body in steel for ease of stamping and welding I think rather than plastic. A 600cc twin with a 4spd tranny with clutch and diff all in a unit if fwd and live axle at the other end or maybe a rubber suspension like a mk1 mini.  sliding windows. 2cv type canvas seats.  A good strong bumper at each end... not for damage control but to enable towing with just a rope.

The mini-moke comes to mind here.

And let's not forget the numeric designations to mimic other brands:   ;D

The TATA 32A:  Subcompact - great for driving across the prairies and wooden boards.  Two fried egg keychains are thrown in for free.
The TATA 36C:  Your average sports sedan.  Not too big, not too small -- just right.
The TATA 40DD:  The Escalade of TATAs.  Best suited for the Rockies and mountain climbers.  Comes with a Chesty Morgan sound system.  Clear bra is extra.

It has also been reported that TATA plans to rip off Mazda's little ditty (titty?):
