2008 G37 Coupe
« on: March 21, 2007, 01:12:19 am »

Looks like an evolutionary change - that's good they didn't mess with the styling too much.  Power is supposedly about 330 hp.

I approve.  Truly classy styling...the sort that BMW used to be known for before they got Banglified.

Sexy indeed.  Just like the G35 coupe, this new design streamlines the sedan just that much more.

People have been responding well to the new G series.  Wonder if they will have a G37x version?

I've seen this in person it is stunning, the one I saw had a cut off steering wheel which was more sporty though.

Infinity sent me a cd with photos of this car a few days ago I haven't looked at them, I guess they are the same as the ones posted, if not I'll post them up.

am I the only one disappointed?  I actually love the current generation, but I find this looks a lot more like the sedan.  that's not a good thing.  it looks awkward from certain angles.

and I'm still not impressed with the interior.

here's an early review: (bmw fans will cringe at how soundly it whipped the 335)

hmmm....I gotta agree with stewie in that I'm kinda disappointed with the styling.  The current coupe's proportions (or at least appearance) are much closer to a 350Z (aka. a sportscar).  That was one of the reasons I liked it so much.  This shape looks a lot more like the sedan.

Still, I'm sure it will be a great car and a viable competitor to the 3.  I'll have to test drive both in future to see how I feel.

I like the current styling more.

To me the new one looks too much like the sedan where as the current one is a more distinctly different car.

How big are those new wheels?  19s I guess I think its to the point where its getting out of hand. Just getting heavier(more unsprung weight0 and making for crazy expensive tires.

I do like the improvement in the interior chassis and powertrain.

Then again I'll likely never be the target market for this car (I don't have the $) so what do I know.

Rear is kind of chunky. Interior is about what you'd expect. Is there not Infiniti badging of any type on the rear?

245/40ZR19 rear and 225/40ZR19 front according to the article.

I like the styling of the current G35 better than the new one, at least from these photos.  The current car is just so classy looking...  this one looks a bit more generic, I think.  Too much like the sedan, as people have said.

But, at this price level and with BMW-besting performance?  It'll still sell...  :)

I was lucky to see a new G35 up close last week. IMO the styling is better then the previous generation, well done.

I agree its not as distinctive to the sedan as the old one was, but I think I like it.. I will have to see it in person, awesome power though

The interior is still pretty boring, I was really hoping they would pay some attention to it

Overall

Based on these pictures I like the current G35 coupe more.  The G37 looks a little bulbous and flashy to me....much like the new sedan.  I want to see it in the flesh...I'm sure it'll be mighty impressive but I will likely prefer the understated/classic looks of the new 3.

I imagine pricing will land it somewhere between a loaded 328i and a base 335i.  With 330hp and if what the Edmunds review says is true (which is totally the opposite of the 328i vs. G35 sedan earlier this month) this thing will sell like hot cakes.

Keep in mind the 3-series coupe is more expensive than the 3-series sedan.  The G35 is priced similarly to a no-options 328i.  Even if the G37 coupe is more expensive than a G35 sedan, I suspect the G37 coupe's price will be closer to a base 328i coupe than a fully-loaded 328i coupe.

I thought the car looked a little "stripped" when I first saw the pictures.  It's missing a few ornaments.  Pre-production model? ... something's fishy.

Like the looks. The lines doesn't show up very good in a 2-D photograph, think it would look much better in the flesh.

I think BMW did a better job differentiating it's 3 series coupe from the sedan, but the new G37 still looks damn good. Can't wait for official specs.

I don't really like the new G sedan styling-wise. I've always liked the coupe... hope I still do. It looks good - large tires, low, nice lines, but also kind of generic and non-luxury in some ways.

The front is looks like the altima coupe/lexus coupe thing. The interior is still very Nissan like - chunky and drab. 330hp is gonna be fun. An up against the 335ci.
