Good for you if you move about a lot, need to be connected. Perfect for consultants, sales, management people. Good price.

If you don't need PC specific applications, get a Macbook, its very competetive with PC laptops for that performance, you can run Windows Vista using Parallels or Bootcamp.

I am getting one for my wife.

Its a joint service by both Rogers and Bell. Joint-venture is called Inukshuk.

This would be great with a UMPC, an SD card size modem in it, always connected and VOIP phone on it.

I know, day-dreaming.

I am about to pull the trigger with this deal. I need internet installed in my "other" ::) office and my lease is up in a couple of months and need to find another location. I'm hoping this gig is real. Money back offer, I guess I can't lose. I'll let you know.

I know some folks who had Rogers portable internet.   One no longer has it due to inconsistent connection issues, the other guy likes it.  They describe it as 'lugging the toaster"  ;D

Heck, my wireless network at home has inconsistent connection issues, being 2.4Ghz.  I'm thinking of giving my immediate neighbours 5.8Ghz cordless phones for Christmas, just to keep my network up.
Internal combustion thrust I trust

Depends on the coverage.   Get a satellite connection if you need to be connected anywhere on the planet.

Good laptop.   Panasonic Toughbook if you like to beat your lap top.

Sat connection isn't that great.

Works like a charm. I'm using it now. I'll have to unplug and try it somewhere else this weekend.
The size of the modem is .5" x 6" x 8". Hardly a "toaster"...

That's not bad.  You should have seen the size of the early models, let's just say not particularly diminutive.

A touch late to the party, but I'll also suggest the MacBook.  I got one for school - absolutely brilliant.  The upgrade to 1GB of RAM is definately worth it, though.  I've had a fair number of crashes though...  seems like if I put it to sleep (by closing it) without allowing sufficient time for everything to get in order, it needs a hard reset.

Still, leaps and bounds ahead of any Windows machine (imo).  And can run Windows, if you're so inclined.
