About $33,000US according to the Yomiuri Daily 12/14/09.
Toyota V.P. Mr. Uchiyamada said yesterday the PHV premium would be within a reasonable range for HV Prius owners to step up to.

Which is ~$35,000CDN with the real exchange, or $50,000CDN using "Toyota exchange."  $49,995?

25 kms range?  I dunno...I'm not impressed.  Though the 2 hour re-charge is better than 8..

Thats what, 3.27L/100 km? Impressive. How much for 16kWh battery upgrade? The moment Toyota decides to offer one and bumps up EV speed to 120kph, the Volt is over.

My wife's commute is 17km.  If she could make it there on EV alone, charge while she's at work, then come home, that would be perfect!

I wonder how many kW/h it uses to go that 25km?

:-[  Oops.  Guess I should have read those specs.  Well, at ~12c per kW/h including distribution charges, my sife's commute could cost ~$0.65 round trip.  Holy crap!  At 7L/100km in her 'Rolla, she spends ~$2.30 at $1.00/L.  It's not a good analogy, but it's like getting 2.0L/100km, cost wise.

Although if that is all the Rolla is driven it is still a more economical transportation at roughly HALF the price of Plugius.

Yup. Or get a used Insight (like me!) and save even more.  Though I do note with winter fuel and cold weather I'm "only" getting 4.2L/100kms

Actually, the 'Rolla is driven about 30K per year, but of course, we couldn't do that all on EV mode.  We didn't buy a Prius 'cause it didn't make sense financially.  The fuel economy advantage payback period is very long thanks to the $10K premium over the Corolla.

BUT, bring a simple EV (the Prius is complex and expensive) that's <$20K that can go, say 60-100km on a charge at run at the same (or better) EV "mileage" as the Plug In Prius, and I'll be looking at it pretty hard.

I confess, I DO like Starbucks/Second Cup/Fresh Ground coffee over POS Tim Horton's stuff.  If you're just going to have coffee out of a bag (Timmies) instead of fresh ground (Starbucks, etc), why bother?   :stick:

Nah, I'm a country boy. So Country Style is where I get my medium latte (at). 2.29+tax. Will wait for Leaf  ;)
