Used Vehicle Review:
2004 Ford Freestar Limited

2004 Ford Freestar LimitedWhile the Ford Windstar suffered from a long list of reliability issues, many of these appeared to have been addressed in its successor, the Freestar, observes Used Car Reviewer, Chris Chase.  Introduced in 2004, the Freestar featured a new 4.2-litre V6 and a fold-flat third-row seat. As the Freestar is to be discontinued in 2007, used prices are reasonable, he says.       More...

It's sad to see Ford give up in this segment.  Even though they never were real contenders, all they're currently riding on are their trucks and the 'stang....

I'd never buy a freestar but extra competition (if you can call it that) is a good thing in any market.

True,  the previous Windstar wasn't bad and had better success than the Freestar.   I think the Aerostar was the best selling minivan for Ford in its history.

In the Freestar, fuel consumption is the worst of the category with its 'truck engine'  (4.2L).

The Edge, Freestlye will have to work hard in 2007 to retain loyalty of Ford customers.

Ford's biggest mistake IMO was in naming the replacement for the Windstar the Freestar.  The odor that the Windstar had stuck to the Freestar so badly that it could have been a perfect vehicle reliability wise and it still would have likely tanked b/c people who had been burned by the Windstar or had heard the stories wouldn't touch the van with a ten foot pole.

Sad part is that the Freestar now is a decent choice amongst the domestics, if a little thirsty...

R.I.P. Freestar, you were born under a cloud and leave the same way, through no fault of your own...

IMO the Freestar is a handsome van.  The fuel economy penalty is the price you pay for more torque and greater engine displacement.

The Windstar was a contender as any other minivan (and had far better sales than any import minivans but don't interpret this as an endorsement...). Chrysler has ruled this market and still does. No other company has been able to steal the limelight in this market from Chrysler.
