Rabbit.  Oh how he hates that name; hahaha.

Spring for a big birthday prezzie... http://oempl.us/product_info.php?cPath=23_30&products_id=280&osCsid=e1e8e7a178c9184d02c576aa477663ec

Probably more fun razzing him about it though.

I'm going to show him that and I know he'll want one because he hates to answer ppl as to what he drives.  Of course the Rabbit thingy came off the first day.

I'll post a pic of his car soon.  He's got a set of 18s on it now.  Chinese rubber: 225/45s.   Handles so much better than the stock 195/65/15s which is of course no surprise.

What he did do is paint the stock black front valance, silver (same as car).  It has the optical effect of lowering the vehicle a bit because it rides high stock.  He also put the front plate down below the bumper and is just waiting for the airbrush guy to cover over the four license plate holes.

Just got VW's magazine in the mail; "DRIVER".  It's first rate.

 Sounds like some good mods.

I still get asked what my car is  ::)  Wanted to get the 'Golf' badge myself to put on with the red 'GTI' badge I have, but don't want the rear to look too cluttered. Haven't decided yet.

Where the hell's my Driver issue? Maybe at my parents and if so possibly in the trash by now. How old is your son if you don't mind my asking?

21, just

Actually tonight I got him to snap a couple of shots of his unit with his new phone.   However, it's a new SONY so he said he was too tired to figure out how to download right at the moment.  I'll get them though.  :)  Personally, I like the car.  But I like German cars anyways and it's very German.  The black door guards are a bit much.  I believe on the 4 door they are coloured matched so that is a sore point with him.  I agree with him that they are a bit pronounced.

There isn't much choice in that segment really if your looking for a hatch.  It was between a Mazda 3 GT and the Rabbit and if you want a 2 door then Rabbit it is, among a host of other reasons (minus the radio).  :) Although, financed the GT was less expensive.

Indeed, for young hetero males the name "Rabbit" is HORRENDOUS.

He bought what he could afford.  New 3 series Bimmer is what he wanted.  :)   However, you take the good with a little of the bad.  That applies to most things.

Things that suck on the Rabbit:  Unfortunately, the only car available with his desired options had the $600. radio.  It's worth about $150.  :P   On the 2 door, VW really over did all that black trim.  It looks OK on the rear, but much less so on the front and sides.  When the motor is started cold it sounds like an ailing central vac. One of the most unrefined motors I've driven of late, but connected to the 6 speed auto it drives well.  I still give it a strong recommendation.

Perhaps he should slap on this badge in its place...

My bad.  We were in his car and he was raving about what a rip he thought the stereo system was (usual for an ex boom box user) and I asked him how much and he said $600, the same price as the Alpine touch screen.  ::)

So I checked the invoice and back in March 07 he was charged $400 even for the 6CD and floor mats (floor mats being superficial).  The diversity antenna is still a mystery to me.  I don't get it.  Either they have an antenna that works or it doesn't.  I see something in the rear hatch glass at the top and then there is this big long thing on the roof which he shortened.  So which part is the diversity  ???  Maybe he didn't get it, because it's not itemized on the invoice.  ???  Redundant now because he has XM.

He was unable to get the heated seats which are a screaming deal at $205.  They only car, dealer trade from Pickering VW, with his must have options that had the seats came with the 16 inch alloys and that was a no go for him being a former ricer dude.  Here are a few pics of the front lip painted, the wheels which were a screaming deal @ $1250  plus tax(wheels and tires 225/40/18) from VW Owen Sound (one time only price/apparently their cost).

Oh a 2 door.
Then the heated seats and convienice pkg could be separate.

articsteve, is your son's Rabbit lowered at all with those rims, or is it at stock height?

Stock.  However, the suspension will lower a bit after a few months from new.  Also, when you lift it up it takes a bit of driving around for the suspension to settle back down.   So when he first installed the new wheels and dropped it down ( all four corners lifted) it looked pretty bad (too high).  He freaked and was going to lower it. I've been down that road once too often on cars with full warranty.  ::)  Fortunately, it returned to an acceptable level.  Plus he occasionally tows a lite boat with it so lowering was not going to happen.

I know all about lowering... had a modded 93 Civic and 99 Prelude... both lowered 2+ inches.  And yeah, w/ any spring, it takes a while to settle back after the car has been jacked up.

But his looks good the way it is... no need to lower it.  What size are the tires on the 18's?

Seems to be particularily pronounced on this car.

What size are the tires on the 18's?

Chinese directional 225/40s.

Too early to tell.   :o   Not for winter use that is for certain.  :)
