I have a rabbit in my driveway and have for 2 days, I haven't checked the tire but I believe it is a full spare.

Now I would like to say the Rabbit is a VERY nice car.  Lots of luxurious touches, VERY solid feeling.  The engine feels extremely strong (although initially seems pretty thirsty).

The car handles incredibly well.... could be my new found driving talent but it really turns in and hooks up well.  Better than my Mazda3?  I think it may be, it feels much more solid and the engine feels and sounds amazing.  Really impressed by this car, too bad I have to give it up tomorrow :(

Cool!

The Rabbit gets up to mid-size sedan price, but I think is still a superb all-around package with the trade-off of what should be slightly better fuel economy.

Is an article forthcoming?

Possibly but I don't think it will be long, not enough seat time.

There's been a lot of Rab-eet articles already, but just interested in your take on things. Maybe affix it to your initial seat time article when it was first intro'd or something?

It's faster than my Mazda... or at least feels it I just dropped off teh rabbit and drove my Mazda to work.  Mazda feels lighter too, but bigger.

The Rabbit feels faster than the 3?? Interesting!

IIRC, one of the early 3 GT reviews claimed 0-60 in sub-8 seconds, while the Rabbit is 9+ from the CD review. If the Rabbit feels faster and also more solid/stable, it should make some potential Mazda buyers reconsider.

Problem is the gas mileage I think. Rabbit consumes gas like a mid-size sedan (today's mid-sizes), rather than like its compact rivals. (because of its weight JSCC told me.)

Good point. However, the 3 has the reputation of being more thirsty than some of the competition (Civic for one) so maybe that won't be too big of a penalty for the Rabbit vs the 3.

Good point. Fuel consumption numbers below:

Mazda GT sport (2.3 engine)
5 speed manual:
- City: 9.2 L/100 km
- Hwy:  6.7 L/100 km
Automatic:
- City: 9.4L/100km
- Hwy: 6.9L/100km

VW Rabbit:
- the automatic transmission returns slightly better fuel economy than the manual, at 10.5/7.1 versus 10.7/7.2 L/100 km city/highway.

Hmmm, that Rabbit really is thirsty! Thanks for providing actual numbers - I expected that the two would be closer. For someone doing mostly city driving, that extra 1.5L/100 km with the manual might be a bit of a turn-off.

I average 9.0L/100km in my Mazda3 with the 2.3  I averaged 10.6L/100km in the rabbit.

Wing,

If you were buying today, which would it be - '07 Rabbit or '07 3 Sport GT?

Well I bought 2 months ago and got the 3 mainly due to financing, I'd have to check the deals again, I'd go with the better financing again, it's a toss up, the fuel mileage though on the rabbit was disappointing where as the 3 I am surprised how good it is.

Car and Driver's comparo with the older and new kids on the block...
http://www.caranddriver.com/comparisons/11873/2007-toyota-corolla-le-vs-2006-honda-civic-lx-vs-2007-hyundai-elantra-se-vs-2007-mazda-3s-touring-vs-2007-volkswagen-rabbit-vs-2007-nissan-sentra-20s.html

Yup... and the Mazda was the speedy guy of the bunch.  I guess the Wabbit feels quick because of its torquey engine... runs out of steam pretty quickly though by the looks of things.  I was disappointed to see the Elantra 'only' place 4th in the test.  I seem to really enjoy cheering for Hyundai as if they're the 'underdogs' in all these competitions.

Oddly enough... I've been running numbers online again lately (gotta pounce if ever the opportunity comes up to replace wiffy's Civic)... and for the same cost as a Civic DX-G 4 door you could wrangle yourself a base SONATA (not Elantra).   :o  Fuel economy of the Sonata 4-banger is better than the Rabbit by a fair bit too... and could possibly prove to be more reliable over time.  Plus, it's got a power-to-weight ratio fairly similar to the sportier of the bunch in that Car and Driver test.

That car and driver review absolutely HATED the Sentra - very disappointing to see it lose to a 4 year old model. Brutal.

Can't believe this US promo! Off the wall and must cost a mint to do that (bulky item, theft, etc). Seems like they've branded the guitar well though.

Yeah this promo totally sucks cause I just got a Rabbit and my friend wanted the guitar. Would of been cool. I wrote to VW Canada about it.

Maybe I'm over reacting a bit.
Were you leasing your current Jetta?

I hope my last post came thorugh to you. Yes, I did get the Rabbit and yes I was leasing my Jetta. Let me know if you didn't get my last one I sent a few minutes ago.

I have been away so I haven't been around to chat about my new car. The month of Oct was the worst o my life so I'm just getting over that month now.

Cheers
