I'll verify the armrest thing on Friday.
From what I've seen there's no front armrest but Thx for looking it up!

Are these two statments saying the same thing?
There are plastic stripes on the bumpers (like in the picture).  They differ from the ones on the doors.  It's not a bad look but IMO it makes the car look very "low end" compared to body colored parts.

I would have to go with the Platinum Grey (right) or maybe the Shadow Blue (left) for the new Rabbit ... too much Reflex Silver out there.  The best config IMO would be ...

5-door (no black stripes and lots of added features)
5-speed manual (Lots of torque to play with ... No 6-speed stick :()
Electronic Stabilization Program
Sunroof Package

Convenience Package:  I'm assuming that the regular CD player is also compatible to mp3s.  What's a "Diversity Antenna" ?
Alloy Wheel Package:  I'll get my own alloy and keep the stocks for winters tires  :P
Rear Side Airbags

Picture: The "6J X 15 in. steel wheels, with full wheel cover" look like crap.  :P

I'd get a 5 door with Convenience Package just to get the heated seats, warm bum on cold day really keeps you in good spirits :)

I'd stay with the 15" wheels as well great for winter tires and pick up a set of used 16's as you know someone will be selling 16's, lot's of VW's out there.

I may have to wait for the late intro Candy white or be different and go red!

Dammit, now you guys got me thinking again.  Red for me, so not that different, James.  I'd get the alloys and buy steelies for winter, just to avoid the dismount/remount crap, and what would I do with the 15" all seasons anyway?

This may be difficult to pass up.

Well if you want red that cancels that plan :P

I might even skip the heated seats and save $605, bringing the car to a grand total of only $20,990 + $100 Air Tax and $695 Freight.

That is very resonable.  Although I'd probably shoot myself later for not taking the heated bum option.

You can always get aftermarket heated seats
I had seats and sunroof installed in my truck for $2100.00 after taxes

Yeah but it's only a $205 option on the Rabbit but you have to buy the 6 disc changer for $400 on the 5 door so it's $605 much better than $2100 ;)

Boytoys, it is in Paul Williams article ;)

Drive the Jetta to get a feel for Rabbit, not the GTI. The suspension behaves completely different, as is the power.

Godspeed, the one on the right is Sage Green like in the article, not Platinum Grey.

Unlike the US, we can get a roof on the 3dr  ;D

Vs that picture of the Euro Golf, ours has body colour door handles as well. Doesn't look THAT bad. Very Euro.

Notice the plates for the previous generation Golfs too... 1991 -->  ours came in what, '93?... '97 --> ours '99.5... '03CY/'04 --> '07.

I've been thinking about the Rabbit, really it is a steal!  I have recommended it to 2 people already that are looking for a smart hatch / wagon for a decent price.

For myself I really would like one, but I have a slight issue.  It doesn't make much sense for me to lease a vehicle if I only put 5000 km a year on it!  I'm getting press vehicles every other week or so which means it will be sitting most of the time.

It makes more sense to have a car that is paid for if it will sit, and since it will always have low mileage it will not depreciate as quickly.

So what I need is a 2 year old rabbit for 15k ish ;)

With the body colour door handles, the 3dr looks good to me.

The only thing that would stop me buying or leasing, is the reliability issues. I had 2 golfs in Europe Mk1 and Mk3 both were rock solid cars. MK3 was a company car. It was lovely drive and economy and fast, with bullet proof reliability and I still like the styling even today.

Then I come to north America and they have suspect reliability issues. I was disapointed. Hopefully they have fixed this issue with the MK5

Why is when cars are built in Mexico they seam to have reliability problems.

Ah crap!  ;D  Now that you say it's "Sage Green" ... I can actually see it.  :P  I imagine it's the same "Platinum Grey" as the New Beetle?  Sweet!

I just talked to my friend who is selling Acura. They already worried about Rabbit's sales after I told him about the lease rates, in relative to what CSX offers.
