Parcel shelf included, but it doesn't have the draw strings the spring back inside the housing like the Mk IV's do when you go to remove 'em from the hatch  :-\  Just small cost cutting measure. Don't know anyone else that has the Mk IV's device at that price anyhow.

US Rabbits have arrived, but I think Canadian ones don't ship till later this week or next. My dealer said they would be shipping with my GTI next week. ('MY GTI'... love saying that  ;D... but don't like payin' for it quite as much).

Funny thing about that intro lease offer. Low payments, but finance rates are 5.9%. I assume lease similar? Hmmm...

Well a civic is the same price, $20k but with a 5.9% lease rate and $2k down it is $285 a month + tax.

So..... Either lease rates are a lot lower or the residual is a lot higher.

Lease/Finance rate is at 5.9%.
It's the residual that is making the monthly payment low.
It's even higher than a 3 series after 48 months.

Well, residuals are based on MSRP. So, I guess if they price it great to start with, it should hold it's value well from MSRP where leasing is concerned, resulting in more attractive monthly payments. I mean, pay $20Gs for it and I'm sure it'll still be worth in the teens 5 years down the road with regular mileage. Not bad.

Coupled with a 4 year / 80,000km warranty this is looking better and better.  The Civic LX is comparably equipped but is a 3/60 warranty and higher payments.

You'd have to move to an EX to get features similar to that of the 5dr Rabbit (4 wheel discs, rear armrest, more speakers, split-folding rear seat).

So a base EX vs a pretty much loaded Rabbit are comparable. Even with the EX you'd still have 10 speaker audio vs 4 on Civic, and 6-disc MP3 vs single disc MP3 (perhaps with AUX input tho), Civic has steering wheel mounted controls not available on Rabbits, Rabbit has semi-automatic climate control, with probably more smaller items left unmentioned. 150hp/170lb-ft vs 140hp/128lb - Rabbit has more power, but less economy. I would venture to say Rabbit has more roof, and more versatility, but less trunk room when seats aren't folded. Civic arguably looks sleeker and more modern.

That's not to knock Civic, as most buyers don't want/need all that jazz. But just to show how competitive pricing really is against the almighty Civic.

I wanted to specify other than diesel vehicles... and in a small car, the 1.9L TDI is the one we can get over here, it costs 2-3-4k more than the 2.5L, and won't be offered for much longer.

So, other than diesel engines, and that is available in north america, which engine offers as much power as the 2.5L while offering better fuel economy?

More power and AWD with slightly more fuel consumption. My wife’s 2.5i Impreza Wagon has 174 hp and 166 lbs of torque and she is now achieving 11/8L/100km with an auto. Her combined varies from 9-11 depending on the type of driving. Much better than what she was experiencing in the winter months.

Got some scoop, official launch is the 24th they should have them end of this week or early next week here.

Of course initial allocations are unknown until they come.  It really is great value with a 55% residual!

If Rabbit comes with optional leather seats, it could very well eaten into CSX's sales numbers other than Civic EX.

Wait a second, if you go to vw.ca, if you want the 5 door you add $1000 but then you have to add more because you have to get automatic ?????

??? What no manual with the 5 door? Poor decision by VW.

I was going to try to steer my cousin towards buying a 5 door manual. :-\

I'm really glad I decided to wait on my next car purchase.  Civic with 5.9% financing was very temping but I will wait for the rabbit.  I  like the hatch and the interior of VW are way more upscale.  Dealer said friday is when they are in.

Go to VW.ca, try to pick a rabbit, it has 2 choices, manual 3 door or auto 5 door, no manual 5 door.

I'm just saying what I see, hopefully their site is currently WRONG.

JSCC, any idea what a 5 door manual with heated seats would price out to?

You didn't click on "pricing".

http://www.vw.ca/vwca/models/pricing/0,2247,54,00.html

Ok did they just update that?  Because I seriously looked for that pricing button for 10 minutes, it was available on the GOlf but not the rabbit!  It was killing me.

Thanks for clearing that up.

The pricing was up there since the 1st.
You clicked on model chooser, which I think is not 100% up to date, that's why.

Oh so the 6 disk changer is OPTIONAL not standard, what does it come with standard?

Either way, 6 disc changer and heated seats for $600 isn't bad at all.
