Pretty sure they're talking about the City Golf... Basically a previous generation Golf for a whole lot less money (around 15k I think).

The 1.9 liter diesel, better yet the 2 liter diesel that was or will be in the Passat (140 hp/ 236 lb-ft). But if you're not inclined towards oil burners how about the Euro natruarally aspirated 2.0 l (150 hp/148 lf-ft) which gets 46 mpg or 39 mpg in real life.

...Which also takes premium, although I was hoping for that engine too.

All told, the I5's not that bad of an engine. Little snarly around town and cruises great on the highway.

Good for you to be well educated on the product line.
But unfortunately, when customs hear premium gas on the 2.0 FSI, they frown and run!
Even though the 2.0 FSI provides over 10% fuel savings compared to the 2.5 I5, customers still wouldn't take it.

Now what are the standard options? I originally read the article wrong, I thought standard was air-bags/ABS/10 speaker stereo/cruise and A/C

If I can get all that for $2000down $218 a month I'll sign up NOW.

My current Golf GL doesn't have armrest, instead some closed compartments and such. In the US the 3drs don't have centre armrests (nor rear seat centre armrest), while the 5drs do. Same might be true in Canada. You lose the rear air vents too.

I wanted to specify other than diesel vehicles... and in a small car, the 1.9L TDI is the one we can get over here, it costs 2-3-4k more than the 2.5L, and won't be offered for much longer.

So, other than diesel engines, and that is available in north america, which engine offers as much power as the 2.5L while offering better fuel economy?

No kidding! I wouldn't have a problem leasing a Rabbit so well-equipped, for such a low price! I may do that myself in about a year when we actually need a 2nd vehicle!

I think that is for a base 2-door (ok 3-door in VW speak) but still a good deal. But are they just pushing up the residule values to keep the payment low?

I checked the vw.ca site and they have nothing. I have a friend looking for a new car and this could work for them.

Come on JSCC -- give us all the details on this one.

You lose the rear air vents and covered storage of the 5dr too (see attachment).

Residuals are not set by the automaker, but by a non-affiliated company. Residuals themselves cannot be artificially boosted directly.

Yeah it says $1000 for the 4 door, ok fine, That should be what $230 a month now?

$230 a month for the 5 door, does that include a cargo cover? I might head to VW dealer right now.

I'm looking for a daily driver that is good on fuel is half decently quiet on the highway, has air / cruise and some powered goodies.

I am also looking for some cargo space and a 5 door hatch does it for me!
