From the song of the sausage creature by Hunter: There are some things nobody needs in this world, and a bright-red, hunch-back, warp-speed 900cc cafe racer is one of them - but I want one anyway, and on some days I actually believe I need one. That is why they are dangerous.

And having seen how you drive with your hair-on-fire, and completely, utterly insane need for max velocity, that's a terrifying notion.   ;D

Yep, that is why I never bought a bike after having two friends die and watched another one drop his on the highway in front of my Z-28 wearing only gym shorts and a helmet.

I gave up snowmobiling after my last white, blue-white, blue-white, blue-white and white display from my helmet.

I'm amazed at how many people in Canada ride without the proper protection, some in just t-shirts and shorts.  If it was me I wouldn't even wear jeans, full jacket and protective pants whatever the weather.  I too have had family members that had to have skin grafts, and they were even wearing the right stuff.

It may be sweaty but I value my legs.

So... bit of an update.  The '03 SV was sold at the end of the 2012 season.  I listed it on a whim on Kijiji and got exactly what I paid for it at the start of the season, so it was an easy decision to not pay for the insurance throughout the winter.

The plan was to pick up something different in the spring of this year -- the nice part of bikes is how relatively cheap they are and seemingly easy to flip for something else.  Well, the months ticked by and here we are in September and still didn't end up getting one.

Then, two weeks ago, my brother picked up an absolutely perfect Aprilia Shiver 750 and needed to offload his '06 SV650S.  So, being brothers, we were able to do the ol' tax free ownership switch and that made a deal too good to pass up.  Knowing how reliable this bike has been (and how fanatical he has been about maintenance) only made the decision easier.

So, a charcoal grey '06 SV650S is now in the stable.  Looks much nicer than my old copper-coloured one -- and sounds better too with its Yoshi pipe.  :)  Once the rain stops, I'll throw up a pic or two.

The past:00 BMW M Rdstr, 19 Jetta, 15 Ducati Scrambler, 09 Triumph Bonneville, 98 Boxster, 17 Kawi Z900, 05 LS 430, 99 LS 400, 17 Subaru STI, 14 Triumph STR, 15 WRX, 09 Ducati Monster 1100,  08 335i, 06 Suzuki SV650S, 06 330i, 06 MX-5, 04 Audi A4, 03 Suzuki SV650S, 98 328i, 93 Civic Si, 85 Corolla

....and a little over a year later, a new update.

BMW 335i sold about 4 weeks ago to a really great and deserving new owner who has been passionately modding and improving it ever since.

I sold my '06 SV650S just before that.  Having had a series of different motorcycles to try out and review over the summer months, I've decided I'd like something different for my own personal ride in the future.  Not sure what it'll be yet, but there are lots of options in the Street Triple R / FZ09 / Monster 796 universe.

And today I've picked up the latest addition:  2015 Subaru WRX.  Bare-bones base model finished in 'anonymity grey' as I like to call it.  I've just picked it up as a very cost-effective, short-term lease and as a happy surprise, my insurance actually went down vs. the BMW (in fact, this thing is cheaper to insure than my wife's Mazda6 for some reason).

Anyhoo, it's as pretty to look at as an armadillo roadkill, but it should be reliable, fun and all-weather practical.  Plus, the money being saved vs. the Bimmer will go into the 911 or more motorcycles fund.   ;D

I'll hopefully get it out for a shoot over the weekend, but in the meantime, a quick iPhone teaser shot...

Can't go wrong with a WRX.  Congrats!
Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.

Out with the old and in with the new!! After getting rid of the 335i and the SV650 I'm not sure if I should pass along my congratulations or my condolences. As you said, it's tough to beat a WRX when it comes to a short term lease situation.

Curious what your thoughts were about the SV650? I've read that they are a good choice for a beginner to intermediate rider. Thinking about getting back into bikes after about 15 years away from it.
