Thanks for all of the suggestions and insight.

Now that I have really narrowed things down to the Sonata for the midsize option.  What I really have to decide is if I really require this size of car.  My main concern is comfort for hwy driving, the sonata does provide this, but will a corolla LE or an accord EX provide the same?

I am looking at the corolla LE w/ package B (since this is the only option with side air bags). this is also $2k more than the civic EX which I have yet to test drive.

The payments on all cars are similar. Looking at the fuel economy, since 80% of the driving will be hwy, i will only be burning 2 extra litres of fuel per 100 km in the sonata which is about $20 over 1000km or $400/year more, so it won't be too bad.  (a lot better than the 95 4runner I am driving now).  I will most likely lease the sonata,  and purchase the corolla or civic. hmm to buy big or not to buy big?

If you are going to do more highway than city driving, I would take a look at Camry LE instead of Corolla LE with Pkg B.

I have the opportunity to drive pretty well all the Toyotas and IMO they are leaders in most segments but the Corolla is now a dinosaur since the new Civic; 126 hp/4 speed auto in contrast to 140 hp/5 speed and better mileage rating.  No doubt Toyota is planning a much better Corolla after seeing what Honda came out with.

Toyota already have a war plan to release the next generation of Camry and Corolla, I am damn sure these cars will upped the ante in their segments once again. 8)

I am sure they have a war plan in place already, but are there any ideas of when they will be put into practice? Also, although the Corolla and Civic / Camry and Accord compete in the same segment, Toyota has generally taken up the more mundane, but also more reliable approach, while Honda has typically tried to inject a more sporty influence into their cars (not counting the 7th gen ES/EP Civic, that is). Both brands have their own design philosophy, and I don't expect them to vastly deviate from it.

In any case, I'm getting OT...

We are going to see a new Camry revealed early 2006, it's already known that Toyota wants to change it's direction for styling.  We read about that a little while back, the new Yaris is the first kick at the can with the RAV4 next.

I really hope Toyota can sort out Camry's engine hierarchy for next generation. For 2006, SE V6 uses 3.3 but XLE V6 uses 3.0. XLE V6 is more expensive than SE V6 but with lesser engine. ???

The Sonata 4cyl with a 5spd would be my choice. its built in Korea as opposed to the V6 which is built in the US.

I don't think I could stomach a Camry (did own a 86 Camry briefly though)

I went with the 5 year lease w/ the Sonata GL V6 w/ sunroof and 17" wheels option.  Decided the leather and powerseats weren't worth it to upgrade to GLS, and the cloth felt good. I pick it up on thursday.

Thanks for the info all.

Woo~! Congrats on the new lease, but 5 years seem a little long though. Any particular reason why you chose that over 4 or even 3 years? If you don't mind me asking, how much lower were the monthly payments and down payments?

The Sonata warranty is 5 years/100,000 km for most parts of the car providing regular service is done at the dealer so ppl are going for the 60 mth lease.

But 5 years is a long time for a lease. For the amount that has been spent over the 5 years, you can almost finance the car and keep it for another 10 years. With a lease, you have nothing at the end of the lease.

Although leasing is a more expensive way to finance a vehicle, you do have more than "nothing" at the end of the lease, in fact with a Sonata, depending on residuals, you would likely have some equity to put to another car or your pocket.
