I think it is too soon for Hyundai to jump into the luxury market.

Should've learned their lesson from the Amanti.

I think they should tell their stylists to cool it with the bulging quarter panels. The Santa Fe and the old Tiburon gave us plenty already.

I am wondering whether Kia still offers Amanti in 2006.

wow, that's a great looking car for under $40G's!

I was very impressed with the new Sonata, so I am sure this will take that luxurious feeling one step further - Congrats Hyundai!

Woah! :o

I just did a quick conversion, and that thing is starting at under $30,000 CANADIAN:skid:

Looks like it will have an over $8,000 advanatage over a base Avalon!   8)

It would be a tough choice between Azera and Avalon if I am shopping for a full-sizer.

A direct American to Canadian funds conversion doesn't always work for cars...  but Canada is probably still looking at less than $40k for the top-end model.  All in all, a good deal.

(And while I think the styling of the Tiburon and Santa Fe was great, the bulging panels look a little out of place on a luxury sedan).

Direct conversions don't work.
According to edmunds.com the base Avalon MSRP is $US27,165. A direct conversion comes to $CAN31,974. Toyota.ca ca gives the base Avalon MSRP as $CAN39,900.

They should have set up another brand to enter the luxury market, like Toyota-Lexus, Honda-Acura, and Nissan-Infiniti.

I think few people would want a luxury car that shares the same brand equity, brand values and brand image as an entry level Hyundai.

They say it's competing with Avalon, Altima, and (I imagine) Accord, though - not Lexus, Infiniti and Acura.  If/when Hyundai releases a vehicle to compete directly with Japanesse Three, I'm sure they will go with another brand name...

How about KIA?

Actually, no... The Edmunds article states that a top of the line Azera is $27,xxx.... A base on is under $25,000 it states.

so a DIRECT conversion puts it under $30,000 like I said.   ::)

and of course the companies won't sell it for that same amount.. It has nothing to do with converison ratios and everything to do with what we'll pay for a car here... My guess is a $31,995 starting price, depending on equipment differences between Canada and the US.

So what was the point of converting it to Canadian dollars...?

*confused*

Been a long day for you JD? My post was about the Avalon not the Azera.

it's basically an Acura in the front... Lexus copied interior and Accord in the back put together.. which doesn't give it too much of a flavor...
It's already bland...

but the reason it's cheap and with all that it has the power and toys to back it up, i think they will sell it well.... but by no means it shud be cross shopped with an avalon... more into the field of the accord/altima/camry lineup.

Yeah definitely bland and boring.

And I think Hyundai intends it to compete with the Avalon, Maxima and Acura TL to a certain degree... the Sonata is already competing directly with the Accord/Altima/Camry crowd, so the Azera has to go against the Avalon, Maxima and Acura TL... For the money, I'm sure it's a fine vehicle... but people buying Avalons, Maximas and TLs don't buy them because their cheap, they buy them because they have money and want something more/different from all the regular Accords, Camrys and Altimas out there. I don't see those people buying the Azera...

What I think will happen is that some people looking at fairly loaded V6 Accords, Camrys and Altimas will notice that for similar money, they could have an Azera which probably has more equipment for similar price... so some people will buy an Azera instead... but again, for similar money, and similar equipment, why would anyone buy an Azera instead of a pretty much fully loaded Accord or Altima? I'd grab the Accord myself.
