Are they going to design this one with a trunk?

I'd rather they slot in the V8 instead. Likely the same, weight, cost, etc. Cobra for the 2000s! Probably won't as it will be too close to vette performance.

They should make a lightweight track-ready version before making the turbo, if they want to go head-to-head with Miata on auto-X.

I think they'd rather go head to head with Mazda on sales...

the LS series motors are nice compact, aluminum motors - they are also OHV which is way less complexity, bulk, and wieght in the head area. All the turbo bits and pieces add up to quite a bit. Guess which motor is physically bigger Honda S2000 2.0L I4 or the Vette V8? The V8 is smaller and they weight about the same. Back in the 80s Ford offered the 2.3L turbo 4 or a 302cid V8 - the four weighed more than the V8. Things like a the old Buick/Rover V8 or Lexus V8 are very light. Of course some like Ford's new mod motor DOHC V8 are massively big and heavy.

Some years ago I was talking with a fellow who had put a 302 in a Miata. the difference in weight between the 1.6 Mazda motor and tranny and the Ford 302 (iron block) and tranny was less than 100lbs.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

$50K….that’s a facking joke….the S2000 would be a bargain. It will have to be in high 30’s or low 40’s to have a chance.

I say 40 grand. ( the actual price of an S2000  :-[) Anyway if they gave this thing a trunk I would have to look at it.  I thought GM canada had that engine's specs on it's website a while ago.  I just feel sorry for the saps who bought into the regular Solstice but craved more power.

Well the standard one is already mid 30's with options.  It's going to be low 40's at least I would suspect.

177HP in a car that size will be enough to scare the pants off some of the owners as it stands. Any owner who needs the extra power can add the turbo on at any time if they desire. With the Materials they use in many of the new V8 engines designs a lot of them weigh even less then some of the smaller 4cylinder engines or even the diesels. They don't build them like they used to anymore.  ;D

I don't think the General cares if enthuisiast's or widowed grandmas are buying them...  A sale is a sale...  Sell enough to make the vehicle a success, then worry about niche markets...  Especially with the shape GM is in...

From www.autoblog.com

"GM is planning a big show for SEMA: it will be coming to the party with tricked-out versions of the Hummer H3, Chevy HHR and Cobalt, Saturn Sky and Ion, Pontiac G6, and this race-inspired Pontiac Solstice named “Weekend Club Racer”. Built by GM Performance Division, this special Solstice features a removable hardtop that drew inspiration from the Viper, an aggressive body kit, and of course, an oversized spoiler. There’s not yet any information on what goes on under the hood of this little beast, but stay tuned, as we’ll bring you more details when our SEMA coverage begins."

Yeah, 'cause every club racer's first concern is a body kit and huge ass wing

Isn't it common sense that oversized wings and aggressive body kits lighten up the car for racing??  ???

Price should be high 20's/low 30.

Sure if you add every single option it could get higher.

But I ysa, "Screw the options!" I want low payments. And a coupe. Which should keep the price in check.
