New Big Hyundai spotted!
« on: October 10, 2005, 08:48:25 pm »
I saw a Hyundai Azera here in North Vancouver yesterday with Ontario plates. I thought it was an Acura RL at first when it came up behind me on the road. It looked good, if a little plain (like the Acura). I see on the Hyundai global website it's also going to be called Grandeur in some markets. Hyundai is "Movin on up!"

I saw the same car on Marine Drive on Saturday. It will be called TG in North America.

Already?  I knew it was coming but it's not even on their webpage.  Of course, they did that with the 2006 Sonata too.

IIRC, it's supposed to target the Toyota Avalons of the auto world.  Time will tell if they succeed.

Personally, I'd be quite happy with the new Sonata but there will always be a market for a larger, more refined sedan.

Ding ding!  Azera it is, 3.8l, 265 hp apparently.  That must be the press car out there, should be hitting the showrooms shortly.

Is this not replacing the XG350?

As far as I know it is.  It certainly wouldn't make any sense to keep the XG when you have the Azera AND a completely redone Sonata.

XG wasn't a huge seller. Maybe this new one can help out with some sales if they wanna play ball in the full size sedan segment.

I saw two XG's used as taxis yesterday  ::)

LOL, I always say "the XG is the best car Hyundai doesn't sell."

Not a big seller, but when was the last time you ever saw a TV ad on it?  XG is done, there's a ride and drive in Regina for the boys next Tuesday, so expect the next 2 weeks for arrival.

What's the power to weight ratio going to be?  A big sedan for the general public....going right after big car territory that the American makers use to own.  Hyundai is really going after all segments of the market....good stuff and nice to see the up and coming swing for the fences.

Any word on Canadian pricing?

I expect to see a loaded one comes below the pricing of Avalon Touring.
