I just like the luxury goodies and they are too expensive in the Lexus which should be a luxury car!  The TSX is just so well bundled!

Wow!

It starts out right where I thought it would, but from there elevates much higher than I though it would, specifically the base price for the IS 250 AWD. I'm kind of shocked. Also, HIDs aren't available on as many models as I'd like.

BMW pricing looks like a bargin on the lower end in comparison, along with popular features. The Lexus's ventilated seats would be nice tho.

The TSX is a nice car and brilliantly packaged and priced, but the IS and 3 feel above it in quality and prestige. I wish Lexus's mid packages were more affordable, as it is a formitable competitor. Lexus needs to nail this one for volume, yet I know they want to price and position the brand as a premium lux maker. They're not volume oriented for the sake of yet, yet want more with increased prestige. It's a tough game. Dealers also need to be brought up to par too, with more of them.

They can keep most of those luxo goodies as far as I'm concerned.

I could happily live with the base package

For me:
The appeal of this car is:
- RWD
- V6
- still compact size
- Lexus reliability (important given the travesty of my Audi ownership experience)
- have most of the luxo goodies I really want without the totally extravagant stuff.

Now, I wish they included the HID's and the heated seats in the base, but not enough to make me want to pay for the premium packages.

Regarding it's competiton
- TSX - FWD and I4 with weak torque, nuff said. All the luxo goodies in the world won't make up for that.
- G35 - big and unwieldy, not bad overall, but too much car for our needs.
- TL - Ugh, FWD and more unwieldy. Big V6 with a FWD platform do not go together.

Is there something wrong with the pricing? $300 for automatic tranny??

IS250 - RWD 6Spd
C - Premium Leather Package with Moonroof, B+ - $44,275.00

IS250 - RWD Automatic
C - Premium Leather Package with Moonroof, B+ - $44,575.00

Or it's because of the 6 spd?

That's a little more aggressive. Base manual IS 250 is $36,300.

I take it the AWD is Auto-only? Looks it. If so, not bad coinage at all for that car - $41,900. $48,9 for IS 350.

Lexus reliability is hard to beat.

The look is on.

This should sell.

Still, they should have a package with heated seats and HID (a "climate package") or sell them individualy...   :'(
A good used car IMO.

HID is only available in the top package... a step back like no standard ABS on Yaris...

Even at the correct IS pricing, it shows the BMW 325i is VERY competitive in it's segment.  The base 325i without any packages is a very well equipped car, has a superb I-6 engine, terrific manual trans, and is a very well-thought-out package.  At $40K flat, it's tough to beat.

The G35 is getting a little long in the tooth, but will appeal to those in need of HP numbers.  I think the new interior is better, but still lagging behind the Lexus and the BMW.

The real buy in the Lexus IS series will be a base IS250.  In four years, all the IS250's off lease will be priced about the same, so a base model will hold it's value better.  The lower initial upfront investment is nice, too.  You get all the "Lexus goodness" and save some bucks.  The base IS250 would be the "buy and keep" car.  If I were leasing and had no intention of buying the car, I'd option it up a bit as the increase in lease payment would be marginal.

I don't get the IS350, C350 and other "high end entry level" models.  Personally, instead of a $60-$70K C-Class (as many C350's are) I'd get a 5-series BMW.  No fuel economy penalty and a nicer car overall.  A $58,600 525i is a pretty SWEET car.

Toyota seems to have gotten away from Value pricing and is putting it's pricing more in line with premium brands like Merc. and BMW.  Basically the public perception is that Toyota is an end all be all car.  Please note I mentioned "public" not "enthusiast".  Again though, the gf's RX330 was a solid buy from a re-sale persective and I was very happy with the 1996 SC400 I had so I am a fan.  Yet, when premimum brands are adding equipment and DROPPING the price it' hard to overlook the discrepency.  I'm not surprised that Toyota is moving in this direction as they have built the reputation to try it, but there will be growing pains and likely loss sales but at increased profitability at the manufacturer level.  (so do they really care?) as many premimum brands are now pricing vehicles in the other direction.  The 40k 325i is case in point.

Gabe, you always share good info, and if it were accurate it would have been the first time I had seen pricing so no biggie  ;)

It's true that BMW and Benz are becoming better and better values.

Lexus has never sold many IS's at all, so no matter this will be a huge boost for their volume. I still think it will sell well, relative to their small number of dealers. It's darn close to a 3-Series with probably far better reliability.

But to the general public, a Toyota IS a be-all-end-all car. Top marks with initial quality ratings, bullet-proof reliability, superb milage from their bread-and-butter cars (Corolla / Camry). What is there not to like?

The TSX is front wheel drive. I ended up with one as a "service loaner" since they where all out of EL's. It had understeer when pushed hard. In my view a sporty Lexus ES.

So does my S2000 ;)

Like I said though, I'd be fine with FWD as I already have my fun car.  For driving to work and back I don't push my car.

there's understeer, and there's U-N-D-E-R-S-T-E-E-R

If you just want a commuting car, then even a TSX is overkill.
