Good choice.  The Accord would definately be near the top of my list if looking for a sedan in that price range...  pics and more info are a must, naturally, once you've taken ownership.

How many Honda dealerships are there in Edmonton?  Shop around - maybe these guys are banking on this car being an amazing seller and are hiking their rates?  Or is that the going rate nationally?

Maybe I'll call down and find out what they say locally.

There are at least 4 or 5 dealerships in edmonton...
and I think everyone of them has it right now...
I went to the one in Millwoods....

This is seriously ridiculous ..
I head about people get 3.9% on pre-order.....
A higher end Odyssey is like 4.9 or maybe 5.9 at max..
how could a Civic has a higher rate?

And I think the guy was talking Sh*t...
"If you want 1.9% like the 2005 had....wait 5 years..."
WTF was he talking about?  >:(

This interest rate is forcing me to go with the EL....
Which they have a promotion going on...2.2% on leasing... :-X

b/c it follows the supply vs demand principle...
Brand new model of a very popular car (ergo in high demand), expect ALR of 7 to 8% and finacing rates >>5%. Nothing to do with being less luxurious than an Odyssey.

Went to a Honda dealer yesterday to check out the new Civic. It looks pretty big in terms of a Civic, I guess it is nice. And it's quite roomy inside. I positioned the driver seat for me (6' tall), and sneak into the back, still very comfy, with enough leg room at the back. Saw a nice little feature: a switch to change the speed from MPH to km/h and vice versa, will be helpful for those driving across the border.

6.4% isn't too out of line since it's right at the beginning of the 2006 model year and the Civic is a highly-anticipated car. Mazda is at 5.9% for 48-60 months on the 2006 3. Unless you're one of the "gotta be the first on the block" crowd, wait until the novelty of the 2006s wear off and they start having to sell them again.

As far as the look goes I don't care for the sedan--regardless of what it drives like, it looks like a generic family car and I prefer a sportier, more distinctive look. The coupe on the other hand looks great. They really got it right there. Too bad my body style of choice is a five-door hatch. By choosing not to offer one Honda seems to be conceding that kind of business to Toyota & Mazda.

demosthenes - if the sales guy in Edmnton told his customer the rate was 6.4%, he wasn't making it up... rates are set by the manufacturer not the dealer...

doesn't everybody know that these days?

Sometimes people talk about negociating the Financing/leasing rates. I guess it is impossible with new car dealers as the rates arr set by the financial arm of the car company, no?  ???

Or so they lead you to believe ;)  Ask Neil about this.  Deal with the banks and you can get a better rate on that Civic.

actually, WING, since i work at a dealership, and i see cars financed every day of my working life, i think i know what i am talking about. Honda Canada Finance sets the rates, they are the same across the country. Big dealers can't sell for less than small dealers. These rates are advertised so it would be tough for one dealer to do anything different than another. If you want to go to a bank and get whatever best rate you can, go for it. That is your business. But you aren't going to influence a dealer by telling them that Bank ABC has a super duper rate for you, they do not have the ability to offer you a lower rate. If we submit a contract with an incorrect rate on it, it gets kicked back to us, meaning we don't get funded, and that isn't exactly gonna go over too well with the accounting department when you sell a car and can't collect payment for it...

I am currently waiting on the rates for the 2006 Accords in Canada. The Accord is more than I have planned on spending in cash, which leaves me with the option of financing. Now, I think the deal will fall through if they ask for  6.4%. I know its not the dealerships fault, but that is ridiculas. Volvo are offering 2.9 right now on thier brand new cars, and they are considered high end. I guess I will have to wait andsee, as my dealership has yet to recieve the rates for finance for a 2006 Honda Accord. Normally by late Nov/ Dec, they drop the rates down anyways.

Nick it sounds like you intended to pay cash for a Civic so is it reasonable to assume you have that amount to put down on an Accord? If you have $20,000 down on a $30,000 car, the difference between 2.9 and 6.4% is about $20 per month over 3 years.

Now $20 is $20, but is your budget so tight that $20 per month would prevent you getting the car you want?

Wandered into our local Honda dealership today for a few minutes. Some initial thoughts from seeing both the new Civic and the new Accord for the 1st time:

2006 Civic - a winner, far superior in looks to the old one, both interior and exterior. From the pictures, I was expecting not to like the "space age" interior, but in real life, I do like it a lot. The slope of the windshield is incredible! I could see owing this car myself. No coupes there yet obviously; but saw the upper end Civic sedan and a lesser one. Good for Honda on the Civic - a ton will sell I'm sure.  ;D

2006 Accord - glad I'm not in the market for an Accord, and I may be in the minority on this, but I think the 06 Accord does not look as good as the 05. I dislike the new rear end a lot. It is so boring and bland; the 05 was superior looking IMO. I saw a blue 06 Accord on the showroom floor and I had to look at the badging to know it was an Accord from the rear. Not a step forward for the Accord IMO. Posters here are always beating on the Toyota Camry for being bland. Well. I got news, the 06 Accord is the new King of Bland.

I always liked the 05 Accord rear - you knew what you were looking at.  Haven't seen the new ones, so I'll reserve judgement on that.

I'll throw my gun into the camp that thinks the '06 Accord is rediculously bland  :-\

It reminds me of the late-90's Acura RL.. A fine piece of machnery, but so rediculously boring!

Honda Canada has updated their site on 06 Accord coupe/sedan and Pilot tonight. They still haven't updated new Civic and brochure request sections yet.

Most of you know aint a big fan of hondas, but i considered the old Civic a cool car to see, but the new one...ummm...i dont like it at all!!!...

Anyway i think Honda made a big mistake by launching the Civic with the looks it has now, it should have launched with this design (only for east and south america markets):
