You could stick a Honda badge on a steel box with a turd in it and some people would still buy it.

As proof of that statement, please observe the 2005 Honda Civic Si, with a revolutionary 127HP engine...

And yet, I see them everywhere.

It's a Honda Civic ... even if it's less than the previous generation or even the attempt to be "ahead of it's time" fails ... it will still sell very well.  You could stick a Honda badge on a steel box with a turd in it and some people would still buy it.

Honda has had a few flops that didn't sell.  The Del Sol sold very poorly because of its underpowered base model engine and soupy handling.

I doubt the new Civic is going to be a flop.

Given Civic's long-standing reputation in Canada, it is impossible for it to be a flop. However, whether it will be embraced by enthusiasts such as ourselves is another story.

It seems to me that the design of the car is very polarizing -- you either love it, or you hate it. I totally dig the specs of the car, but not its looks. I'll reserve my final judgement until I see and try it in person.

The New Civic is the WORSE Civic ever. What an ugly piece of junk. I had all intentions of buying one today from London Honda, but when I took it for drive, it was terrible. Their is little difference in the engine from the old 115hp. Also, the dash looks really ugly. Everything is so small. It has the smallest steering wheel ever. The interior is full of low quality plastic. Mazda and Corolla are MUCH better interiors then the civic by far. The outside of the civic is the worse of it all. It looks like the Toyota Prius. I am really disappointed. For the first time ever, I wont be buying a Civic.

Nick

PS Unless it is dark out, the dash lighting looks really bad. After all the hype is over, I am sure Honda is going to be offering incentives on this car to keep it selling. The last generation is much nicer inside and out.

It's quite obvious from your other posts that you're an owner of the previous generation Grandma-Civic...  It's very common for owners of previous generations to hate on the next gen stuff...  Be thankful the Civic was redesigned so that people under 50 would actually *want* to buy it...  The old civic was loosing sales fast and the Mazda3 was set to exclipse it as the most sold car in Canada!

Nick if you can't feel the difference between the 7th gen 115 HP Civic and the all new 140 HP model you must be asleep. Read what the critics have been saying about this car, yes the look and specifically the interior will turn some people off. But they will also turn a lot of younger buyers ON, and that is what Honda's goal was with this car, to reclaim the younger buyers who had wandered over to the Mazda 3... If you had driven the competitive cars back to back as I did last week, it would be impossible to come away from that experience thinking that the Civic was not going to do VERY well in the compact market. Compared to a Corolla, the new Civic looks 15 years newer in interior design. We also drove Corolla, Cobalt, Mazda 3, and Sentra. The only car in that group that was competitive was the Mazda. And the safety issue will help the new Civic sell to older more practical buyers, side curtains and standard ABS on all models are features that will force the competition to add content if they want to keep up.

Nick, you are treading on dangerous ground here. Expressing the opinion that you don't like a Honda Civic just isn't acceptable among polite message board company. Just think what it could lead to: people saying they don't like a Subaru or *gasp* an Echo. Everyone knows that these type of comments just represent a willingness to destroy the environment and are borderline unpatriotic. Take it easy man.

Hey, hey, hey. I'm just warning our new friend Nick here about what might happen. I would never dare say anything bad about a Civic, Subaru, or Echo.

I*hate* the current-gen Echo and Echo HB... Look like a little girls car...  And I am afraid the latest model Yaris looks a little too girly and bubbly for me... I much prefer the euro-look of the Kia Rio5, toobad it lacks some important features :(

 fast, gas guzzling cars, also.  :-X

well ..i saw the car live ...unfortunatly no coupes so i had to settle to looking at a sedan...didnt drive cause they even werent out on the floor (had to go to the back of the dealership)....anyways, the car looked nice inside and out ...i like the set up inside..it gives you the feeling that you are low in the car and if you dont ...you allways have the option to raise your seat...the outside looks very sleek and aerodynamic...if i had to pick on something it would be the front bumper..not too crazy about that in the sedans...they did a better job with the coupes...and thats the only reason i didnt consider the mazda 3 ..the have no coupes.....honda will atract alot of young buyers for that reason....

I was back into the stealership tonight and guess what, I looks like ill be the owner of a 2006 Honda Accord. I drove one, and this car fits me really well. Excellent safety, good fuel mileage, excellent resale value.
