I saw 2 of the B class MBs in Calgary last week. Both were in motion and I had to really look to see what they were. Can't say my initial impression was that positive, particularily once I realized it was a MB. Not sure about the styling and the whole thing did NOT say "Mercedes" to me. Probably a decent vehicle under the skin but will take me some time to adjust to a MB looking like that one does.

Maybe they should have slipped a super efficient CDI engine under the hood and branded it with Smart.  Smart could be a line of $16-30K vehicles of various sizes and seating arrangements that have diesel or other super-high-mileage drivelines as their claim-to-fame.  The foretwo, A-Class and even B-Class could be Smart brand, and the C-Class could be the entry point of the Mercedes Brand.

I prefer the B-class over the A-class, much more useful vehicle and much better looking.
A-class is a nice 2nd car to pick up the groceries etc, but B-class is a better all around useable car.
IMO base price should be $25,000CAD and up.
A-class IMO is a 4 door Smart car type

Smart already got a car used the same chassis as A/B-Class, its called For4 and its a marketing flop already.

But, they haven't tried it here.  MB Canada hoped to sell 800 foretwo units and has sold more than three times that number.

The more Smart models add to Canadian line-up, Mercedes Canada has more pressure to have seperate dealer for this franchise similar to what BMW did to Mini. Mercedes dealers already busy enough to handle the huge volume.

I saw my first B-Class today and could take this photo, but then the chick ran away:

On the corner I met its "competitor", the BMW 1-series:

Eventhough I'm not German car fan, the B looks good, especially from the front. It has something SLR-esque in it, if you beleive me or not.

1-Series looks nicer than B-Class, IMO. :)

Wrong, the forfour is based on Mitsubishi Colt.

Just for illustration, I went to a BMW dealer and made this clip of a BMW 1-series:

It really looks much better than the B.

And a picture of the front:

Went to a dealer yesterday at Markham. They have like 3 cars at the dealer, 1 in showroom, 1 showing outdoor, and one for test drive. It's pretty nice little car. Space wise is much better than a Toyota Matrix. As I position the driver seat to fit myself in (I'm 6 feet), and the seat behind the driver is still pretty roomy.

We get power on all 4 windows, plus CD and automatic climate control standard. Pretty nice! $30950 for B200 and $33500 for B200T, I would say it's not too expensive for what you get.

I have to say that only $2500 extra for the turbo version is an awesome deal! Did you get to drive it? That vehicle might be an excellent used vehicle to purchase in 2-3 years...

And more space than a Matrix?? Rear passenger space is a bit tight in a Matrix, but I expected the B-Class to be slightly smaller than the Matrix, not bigger!! And what about cargo space? Is it roomy enough? Thise little Mercedes is getting more and more interesting, especially at those prices! Maybe I should go to the dealership and have a closer look and maybe a test drive...  :)

I just read a bit more info on the B-Class and noticed that the only automatic transmission offered a CVT... isn't it the first vehicle in which M-B offers a CVT box? If so, that's a bit scary...  :-\

The rest of the car seems superb though! I'm liking it more and more every time I read or hear about it! I wonder how its high speed, high winds highway stability will be... it's quite tall, and not very heavy... so I have reservations there... it wouldn't surprise me if it didn't feel like a vault like most other german vehicles... it's a bit of a departure for a M-B, and I hope it has kept most of the attributes that make Mercedes vehicles so appealing to me and many others.

It's more roomy I think due to the sandwich platform. Hence everything is higher, thus giving you a roomy feel. But I can sit at the back seat comfortably that's no question. Plus in those European cars the back of the front seats are contoured to fit your legs, that would help too!

The interior package feels similar to Renault Scenic and Opel Zafira, more like a ppl mover than a hot hatch.

The one I sat in a few weeks ago felt roomier than the Matrix to me as well. Nowhere near the interior size of the Mazda5 overall, but the driver's seat has more adjustability. It's an interesting concept, and not quite comparable to the A3 even tho they're positioned similarly because of the extra height. Still not quite used to the kicked-in back end, but it's quite nifty. The Benz city folk and 'poseurs'  :surrend: oughtta eat it up. The B200T is suposedly very quick with excellent handling, although it looks a bit tippy.

Why can't the Golf Plus or moreso the Touran come here?!  ::)

There are lots of "posers" appealing to B-Class's versatility and 7-speed Autotronic CVT in Mercedes showrooms. :P
