I completely agree Kevlar, the plastics and detail on the CTS are not on par with the TL and I tried to convey that.  The radio and air-con controls on the TL seemed oddly placed for some reason and I didn't find as intuitive.  I can understand trying to make the TL a "sporty" car, but I don't understand the WHY, the TSX is suppose to be the 3 series fighter, a sports sedan, the TL just doesn't seem to me to be that type of vehicle, I expected it more frumpy and soft.  Maybe I went into it with the wrong criteria.

My girlfriend was the one that actually commented on the harsh ride and wind noise on the highway, I guess that is what makes testing cars so interesting.

You really have to go into each test with a different mind set.  If I went into testing the SLK 350 with a luxury mindset I would have been utterly disappointed, but as a sport cruiser I was impressed.  I went into the TL review with a luxury mindset, maybe that was wrong, I don't know.  I do know it seems like the buyers around here are looking for that type of ride though.

One of the reasons Acura doesn't put a folding seat in the TL is to maintain rigidity of the body.  With 95,000 kms on my TL-S the car is as tight as the day I bought it with zero squeeks and rattles.

I've had other cars with a folding rear seats and rarely used them.  I have put some 8' 2x4 boards through the ski opening on the TL though.

I also am surprised that James would prefer a CTS over a new TL.  I've also driven both, and actually had the CTS for a week in Florida.  To me the TL is better looking, better handling and much faster.  For $41K it is an incredible value to boot!  I am now seeing at least 10 to 15 a day during my commute so obviously the drivers shopping this market agree.

Anyone have sales figures comparing the two in Canada?

Farleywilbur, I found your sentiments here:
http://www.canadiandriver.com/discus/messages/1490/26882.html?1109554121

A lot of what you said I agree with, I didn't mention it in my review, but I was not happy about the rear and side visibility it was tough to see out the back with the rear headrest, I felt like I was in a cacoon.

I agree, great value at $41k new though.

I wonder how much of a difference testing a stick-shift equipped car would have had on James' overall sentiments about TL-experiences?  "Sport Sedans" like the TL seem more and more to be stiffly-sprung for handling and braggin' rights.  For people looking for coddling, I suppose there are ES330s in this price range.  BMW does a formidible job of keeping things stiff and well-balanced, without making the ride harsh -- Audi does this to a lesser degree though I DEFINITELY feel the potholes and pavement imperfections in my car as it thumps over everything.  I'll happily take that (and the engine / exhaust noise as Kevlar said) to keep me as a car-enthusiast, entertained.

Often I'd imagine Sports Sedans are intended to fill the role of one-car-for everything.  That's certainly the case for me.  It needs to be my everyday commuter, grocery getter and weekend 'twisties-tackler' (geez, that almost sounds obscene) and I can't expect it to excel at all of them.

Thanks for the review James -- I'm quite surprised by your findings.

I'm considering testing the 300 or the Magnum or BOTH, probably not the V8 versions though.

Talking to a friend of mine who sells for one of the local DC dealers here. He said that the Magnum is not selling well here with any engine. Also, there were several 300C Hemis on the lot when I was there and several more GCs w the Hemi. The Dodge trucks seem to be selling well but the cars less so. Just my take on the local scene.
