James, what does the CTS provide you that a one-year-old TSX (as you recommended elsewhere) does not aside from RWD?

Well Jeff, although I am not James I will chime in anyhow. I test drove a CTS 5 speed a few years back and came back really impressed. If they made a wagon version I may have chosen it over the Passat. Ithink the biggest difference between the CTS and TSX (on paper) is:

HP: CTS 220 @ 6000rpm vs TSX 200 @ 6800.
Torque: CTS 220 @ 3400 vs TSX 166 @ 4500rpm.
(I think this is the biggie).

The TSX is 300lb lighter so I expect that the 0-60's etc would be similar. The CTS may be easier to drive lazy in traffic due to the torque where as the TSX would have to be be wound high to get some lb feet.

Other real world diffences: CTS turns around in 35' vs the 40' of the TSX and the CTS has 2" more rear legroom and accomodates 6 footers.

Another great review from jamesbe, and my GOD man nice details pics! You should really do a test on a car every week and post it for us to drool over. Maybe Grant will even allow a special section for your test drives

CTS would be one of the few GM products that I would look at, but it still does not really appeal to me, however I could still picture it in my driveway if I get past the looks of it and the interior (which I could easily do considering the bargain you are getting this car at). Although I gotta admit, you'd probably get just as good of a deal on a used Saab (9-5) these days and for me, the only plus that the Caddy has over the Saab is RWD.

To answer a few questions quickly (as I have to go put a new bed together).

The luxury features in the CTS are outstanding, and the RWD is great, that's mostly what it gives you instead of a TSX Jeff, the CTS is more luxurious and a softer ride, the seats were amazing as well.

As Ktm pointed out the CTS seems to have a great turning circle, trying to get into the loading zone at Ikea on the busiest day of the week was a breaze and such a large car I was impressed.

I drove the car today with all-season tires and we had about 20cm of snow.  The roads were HORRIBLE, the traction control and stability control kept coming on, it was entertaining to say the least.  I would NOT want to drive this every snow fall it didn't feel as safe as my subaru.  I'm not sure how much of a difference snow tires would make.

Once I stepped back into my subaru I plowed through some pretty incredible stuff and had no issues, I seriously wasn't moving 2km/h in the CTS and could NOT get traction.  That is one downside I'm glad I got to try out, I really wonder if it would be viable for a winter car.  Yes you can drive it in the winter, but is it a pain every snow fall??

A Good set of Snowtires and a bit of weight in the trunk will solve this IMHO.

It always seems to be a compromise eh? Add weight for traction and lose a little in fuel mileage. I know, but it's still a fact.

So what's the next car on your review list James? What about an Acura TL or Toyota Avalon? I'd like to know what you think of those cars!

Update your sig, Shnak.  And your avatar.

Hmmm a Jetta TDI eh?  Or a Golf?  A TL wouldn't be too bad of a test drive, I really don't care for the avalon.

I'll call the acura dealer, if I can remember my salesmans name and see if I can arrange a test drive of a 6speed TL for Friday evening :-)

Ok done!

If the weather is nice I'll be driving a 6speed TL, if it's horrible I'll be driving an auto TL.

James, the NEW Jetta when it comes out in a week. Mind you, it'll only be a base engined car with auto, and the demo may be busy, but still.

Hmmmmmmmm, what else would I like to see? You're more into luxo/sport stuff, so...? Mind you, you tested the Smart so I guess any shoebox u'll do for you!
