A gen2 Protegé sedan yesterday, in period-correct forest green - and in pretty good shape, survivor indeed!

That's a (facelifted) third gen.  :)

I had a second gen model, a barebones 1998 model with the 1.5-litre 92 hp engine but at least it had AC and a CD player. In hindsight I should have kept it for longer. Got it for a song from a friend's parents.

You are correct, sir. Somehow the 2nd gen - the very expensive one no one bought - seemed more "recent" in my mind. Still, that little Mazda was 21 years young at the very least.

I really liked the third gen model. We briefly owned a Protege5 back in 2010-2011 and my wife still talks about how much she liked that car. She learned how to drive a manual in it.

The 2001 facelift brought the more powerful 2.0 model with it but there's something about the styling of the pre-facelift model that I really like. Just a simple, handsome compact sedan.

All black with black badges Dodge Hornet R/T with green vehicle plates - PHEV? - apparently owned by transport Canada. Stuck in 401 traffic, so much for that highway mileage test  :P

Still a shock to see a Hornet in the wild.  They're rarer than hen's teeth.

Butt ugly.  Taillights make the rear look droopy and they need to creep closer to the edge of the tailgate.

Is Hyundai losing their way on styling?  I'm not a fan of the unibrow look on the Elantra and Sonata.

Hyundai styling is definitely a mixed bag. The above Kona is ugly from the rear. But they have a few hits as well in my opinion. At least they are trying and have some distinctive offerings. I'd call it a win overall myself.

It is all relative to the reference point. If it is a Cube, Juke or Multipla then the above Hyundai is quite lovely  :P

I think they definitely had the most bland and ugly car on the road recently. It looked like something from a video game where they didn't want to pay the manufacturer for licensing and made "a car". It just looks like if you ordered "Vehicle #4 great value" off of alibaba.
Lighten up Francis.....

This car should have the tagline "The Ultimate Driving Machine".

Spotted my first Silverado EV, a white work truck with orange light kit on the roof. Most contractors up here appear to be driving Lightings these days.

Just spent 3 days on the road in a Crown Signia pre-production car - nobody knew what it was, but everybody loved it!

Its only half a wagon due to its smaller trunk  ;D

Was behind one of these the other day thinking the same thing. Also, I sure hope replacement taillights are readily available, and cheap, as they're going to be used as bumpers on this design.

^^^ Don’t worry, it’s a Hyundai. Give it a few years, parts will be cheap and plentiful as these pile up in the junkyards with blown engines. Just yesterday I was picking up an auction purchase at a Hyundai dealership. Behind the shop were piles of engines, like over 30 at least. Then the lot guy showed me the lineup of cars waiting for new engines……yep, nothing has changed since the Thetas started self destructing 10 years ago.
