I'm a pretty big Raptors fan and a guy who was a bit of a fan favorite (even if his stint with the raptors was brief) was Matt Bonner. That guy made decent money, but had a business education, so his main priority was setting himself up for the future. While he was with the Raptors he didn't own a car, he took the subway to work and mostly ate at Mr. Sub. When asked what one of his big purchases were since entering the NBA he references a digital watch he bought that was able to control his TV.
When he left the Raptors he went to San Antonio, there he was forced into getting a car because their transit system wasn't as good. He test drove a bunch of vehicles and chose the car with the greatest leg room, it was a Pontiac Grand Prix. Got to love a guy who thinks so conservatively.
Not every professional athlete wants a flashy car.
