Spitdriver, the new S40 is available with a low pressure 2.5t 5 cylinder turbo engine, along with the NA 2.4i.
Volvo turbo engines have a pretty good reputation.

The 5 cylinder in the S40/V50 is really for the North American market, as in most parts of the world the S40/V50 is offered in 4 cylinder petrol engine 1.8i (125hp), 2.0D 4 cylinder turbo diesel (136hp), and also another version of the NA 2.4, 5 cylinder (140hp).

Sounds like you and your wife are happy with your choice. Enjoy, and watch out for speeding tickets. The 1.9t is easy to do some quick driving.

Hi all, its still dark outside, but found the camera. Here is the new S40 along with siblings, an 88 740 and our daughter's 78 242.
Wife is absolutely loving her S40.
(First time trying to load a pic, fingers crossed).

With your history of Volvos, I'm willing to bet it's a P1800

Thanks for the pic!

S60, you win the prize, that's my Spit. Driven to work daily in the summer. Top down, wind in the hair, and nowadays something of a nightmare to get through our annual pollution test. Got a new cat con last year, so should still be clean.
Bullit_Blue, I wish. Got realllly close to buying a P1800 before I got the first Spit (in 89). Love the 1800 lines. In 73, my Dad bought a new Plymouth Satellite Sebring instead of a P1800ES (last year for them I think). Still remember the disappointment.
All the 1800s for sale here in 89 were too pricey, or too rusty. If I recall correctly, P1800 bodies were made by Jensen in the UK for a time, which may explain the rust.
Another reason for so many rusty ones being on the market is that they were so attractive, no-one wanted to face sending them to a wrecker, and generally the mechanicals were still good.
Funnily enough, in 89 I was choosing between rusty 1800s, or a low mile no rust Spit. At the time, I was looking for an inexpensive commuter car. Both were, shall we say, "unconventional" choices for that purpose, but we plain couldn't afford an 1800, and as it turned out, the Spit was great for the purpose.
Pics of the S40 on the weekend.

Very nice. I forgot that Volvo used the 3 spoke steering wheel on the MY04's. You and your wife will enjoy this vehicle a lot. Congrats once again.

Saffy, the S40 interior colours offered were graphite(off-black) or light taupe(cream/beige),cloth, leather and cloth combo, and full leather.

The MY2004 S40 and V40 was a short build year with the new S40 and V50 introduction so the MY2004 S40 will be a rare car in Canada as only 279 were delivered to Canada and 163 V40's.

More info then you need Saffy, but what the heck.
The 2004 S40/V40 base models were not delivered in Canada, I remember I tried to find one but was told I would have to factory order, because of the short production run.
The 2004 came with the SE designation which included a fully loaded car,

S60: wow, down to the last detail!

Saf, yes, we like silver, and also have metallic blue Wagon. My opinion, silver is a great colour to live with. Even when it is, it doesn't look as dirty.

We chose this one partly because we wanted leather, but not a light colour. Same Satellite Sebring referred to far above had white upholstery. One just had to look at it, and it got dirty.

Family member just got S60 with almost a pumpkin shade interior (S60 will know name). Very striking.
