Try it before winter hits!
« on: September 20, 2004, 05:32:17 pm »
Well for those around Ottawa, this coming Sunday is almost your last chance to give SOLO2 a try before the cold wheather sets in (you know it's coming) All you need is a safe car (any car will do really) and a desire to have fun. And Grant if you want some material for a story, come on over I'll even give you a ride. SOLO2 has to be the most affordable and easilly accessible form of motorsport arround. Bring on your daily driver and have a blast, people are friendly and eager to help newcomers into the sport. For more info check out this link

So is anyone going to chance it ??? (you don't have to admit to it publicly) I've read so much smack talk around here that I thought some would be interested in trying SOLO2. Am I the only gearhead around here that actually pushes it's car in a safe, legal, fun and controlled environment??? If you are afraid to try it for yourself, come check it out before hand, sign the waiver find me (car #2) and if I have time, I'll give you a ride (or find someone that can).

Thanks Barrie, It is a lot of fun, kind of addictive, and is usually a succes, we average around 50 competitors per event giving everyone from 8 to 10 runs at the course. I'm just trying to introduce people to SOLO2, a lot of folks have no idea what it's all about. It doesn't matter what you drive, it's how you drive it. driving

I'll probably see you, Steve is right behind me on the grid. Both Steve and I are known as the course sweepers because we are the first ones on the track in the morning where traction is at a premium because of dirt, dust and bird droppings. (yuk!)

It was a fun day, got a few rides.

I would have snapped a bunch of pics but my camera died!

I got one good one though.

Glad you enjoyed it Jamesbe. It's even more fun when you get behind the wheel. Next Sunday (Oct 3) is the last one of the season Same place, same time, same actors. Most people are more than happy in giving rides to those interested.

Hey Run.... I was reading some stuff on the S2k site.

Would you believe in the US the top 5 drivers are S2000's?

And believe it or not, the top 4?  SPA Yellow S2000's HAHHAAHAH

I believe it, that car has FTD (fatest time of the day) written all over it. Steve might have just picked the wrong color!

Although to Steve's credit he was driving good yesterday.

I rode with him for his last 4 runs.... 2 of which he botched.

But I believe it was his 10th run, he almost ran dead on into a cone, braked hard and turned and just knocked it over.  But that cost him at least 1 sec if not more because he nearly stopped Plus the 2 seconds for the cone.

His time for the run ended up being a 55.1xx!  So he it could have been a 52.xx or at least for sure a 53.

He mentioned my pointers helped him out, hehe, I rode with Fritz then pointed a few things out to Steve and he improved after that.

Damn you had 30 min of fun runs?  Damn!  I figured you guys were closing up shop because it was already 4pm when I left and you still had about 10 cars to go through.

Steve offered to let me drive a fun run in his car... oh well.

Sounds like a great time, James.  I used to go to these events in Halifax way back when, at first just to watch, then to participate.  It's a blast.  I haven't checked it out here in Edmonton for a long time.  Sunday shopping sure limits the possibilites for good places to set up a track.

Yes I gave a few rides and took one during that 30 minute period. The Blue Mustang really was entertaining to watch! Next Sunday is the last event of the year. Someone posted some pictures of the spinout you had in Steve's car, really good photos you get the sense of speed.

Run, I've been to a half-dozen or so events as a spectator but never had a car set up to do it (the BMW would have been fun, but the lack of sport suspension / crappy tires made it hopeless).  I'm sure at some point I'll try it in the Audi if I can find a situation as open and friendly as the one you've described.

There's a Jetta-owner on here that drives quite skillfully at the Toronto-area events.  Anybody know if there are any more events scheduled for the Bronte GO station this season?

Thanks Inco.  I'm embarassed to say I forgot poor Russ's name (I can remember the VR6 quite clearly though, ha ha  -- typical).

Ontario Place this Sunday huh?  Hmmm....

We could make this a whole automotive weekend.  Friday to Cayuga... Saturday to Formula Kartways in Brampton and Sunday to the Solo2 in Toronto.  Hmmm...

Ha ha... that's funny, as I was typing, I was thinking "there's no way I'll be allowed to do all this in one weekend!" ... Still, I did attend two weddings and watch the love of my life run the Toronto Waterfront half-marathon this past weekend.  I earned a car weekend!  :-)
