Yeah, not really considering full EV at this point. Lots of cold weather, rural driving doesn’t mesh well with current EV offerings.

One of my sister in law is a veterinarian for large animals. Let me say I was quite surprised 2 years ago when time has come to replace her RAV4 work vehicle, she replaced it with a Hyundai Ioniq 5 RWD! She drove daily a significant number of kms on rural road, all year long.

She just ordered another one but as personal vehicle this time.

Gone but not forgotten in chronological order: 2019 Volt, 2013 Volt, 2014 Spark EV, 2012 Volt and many others before...

I don’t think this was suggested, but have you considered the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV?  About the same size as your Outback, has decent power, large sunroof, no premium fuel.  For July they are offering a full extended warranty out to 10 years, so that is your timeline for ownership.  There are big rebates, and fuel economy would be cut WAAAAY down.  Not sure if the warranty deal is a dealer specific thing but I heard on the radio for Fredericton dealer.  Also they aren’t hard to find on dealer lots.

Just thinking outside the box and exploring all options.

What is the wait time on a RAV4 Prime these days? My wife mentioned today, out of the blue, that she was interested in PHEV but only if it's from Toyota or Honda.

Years more than likely. I am on the waitlist for a Prius Prime and when I asked the sales advisor he indicated it is a 2 to 3 year wait for the RAV4 Prime. I am in BC and like Quebec we get more allocations because of our zero emissions mandate. Other provinces reportedly get less allocations because of this. People are waiting anywhere from 6 months to 12 months for a regular RAV4 Hybrid depending on the trim level.

As stated below, it’s a long wait list, my wife has similar levels of dislike for certain brands, but once I convince her to try them she can be quite surprised and in the case of our 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe turned out to be the top choice.  It doesn’t hurt to try and explore the options, doesn’t mean you have to choose it.

Well, the 2025 CX-50 hybrid will use the Rav4 drivetrain, so perhaps it may be worth waiting for that.  Not sure what your timeline is.

Honda has no PHEV.

The Outlander is not a bad idea - terrific warranty, modern Rogue base, better Mitsu drivetrain and the top trims are quite fancy with stitched leather.

Thanks Blueprint, we hadn't really considered the Mitsubishi, mostly because the local dealer is absolute garbage.  But maybe it's worth a look, since it seems like a pretty compelling package (especially with the warranty).

Haven't added any more contenders to the list, my wife seems more preoccupied with finding herself an E85 Z4 than anything else this week  :rofl2:

The Outlander PHEV is a good choice if you can keep it on EV most of the time within the 60 km estimated EV only range. The problem is that it is not that efficient as a hybrid once the EV battery is depleted. 9.0L per 100 km combined compared to the RAV4 Prime's 6.0L per 100 km and CR-V Hybrid's 6.4L per 100 km.

Lots of Mitsubishi's around Edmonton, seem to be replacing Chrysler/Jeep and Nissan lately.

Good prices and lots of stock I'd guess, at least for SUV's

Outlanders are pushing $60k like the rest of them. RVR's are cheap though, as they should be.

This says 7.4L/100km...

Saw a Tucson with a green plate today. Apparently they make a PHEV as well.

Much cheaper here, which would explain a lot

There's not much demand here for the cheaper gassers. More than half of Outlander sales in QC are for the PHEV.

We've got a neighbour with the previous gen Outlander, quite likes it but is looking to get something newer. Looked into the new gen a bit more

Surprisingly (to me) CR rates the reliability of both the PHEV and the regular version highly

But....it appears in very cold weather the PHEV has a major problem. Mitsui took the battery heater out of this generation, which has been causing issues, at least in Prairie cold snaps. Likely fine in more moderate climates

Read yesterday that Canadian take rate for the PHEV is 55%
