Yes, it's a plug in hybrid with a V8 for a combined 717 hp & 738 lb/ft tq and it weighs 5390 lbs!! That's 1153 lbs heavier than the old car and heavier than a Ford 150!!

Heavier than an X5.

This is policy at its worst.

If you add up the sum of its parts it is an inefficient disaster with no soul.

May as well just buy an S class.

Styling is less offensive than recent BMW’s. I’d buy a CT5 Blackwing still and have plenty spare cash left over.

Not to mention the option of a manual.

1,000%, I'm sure that the M5 will be extremely fast but the weight and complexity makes me not interested in the least (regardless of if it had a manual or not).

What's funny is that it isn't even necessarily that fast. I mean sure, it's objectively very fast, but so is the current M5.

When the 2021 M5 came out BMW quoted a 0-60 time of 3.1 for the Competition model and a top speed of 189 MPH.

For the 2025 model BMW is quoting 3.4 seconds to sixty and a 190 MPH top speed.

So all that extra power is entirely negated and then some by the nearly 1200 pound weight increase.

A good looking new bimmer for a change. 25 miles of EV range is in the HOV lane compliance territory though. No one will want to deal with the outcome of all this complexity past warranty and the residuals will have to reflect it.

About what I would have expected:  hugely heavy, but with some physics-defying tech and power to mostly offset the weight.   Styling seems decent relative to most modern BMWs (still too many weird flourish's for my taste).

I just don't find the package all that desirable.   With this weight and complexity....I think I'd rather just cruise around in an X5 50 and save my shillings for a toy on the side.
The upcoming wagon could be pretty unique however.

A shame though.   Used to be that each new "M5" seemed the perfect all-in-one car to me.   Now it just seems fast and fat.

Never thought I'd say I prefer any GM product to a BMW M product, but here we are.  :-X

I'm on the same boat, to me, the M5 was the dream fast executive sedan....now that it weighs as much as a bloody F150, no thanks. I would go with that V8 manual Caddy thing, not only is it much better looking, it comes with the Lords transmission and none of that "why is my car dinging and why is everything on fire" BMW idiocy.
Lighten up Francis.....

The E60 M5 was the last one that seemed truly special. It was rather exotic with its NA V10.

Then they switched to turbo V8s for the subsequent generations.
